MPC 60 vs S950

Another quick question --

I already have an MPC 1000 but someone I know is selling both an MPC 60 and the S950 . I want one of them but not sure whcih to get . What are some suggestion s based on their differences? ease of use ? parts?

What do you want them for? Do you want them to add/modify/improve your work, for nastalgia purposes, etc?

Most people that got an s950 was for the sound.

Most people that got an mpc60 was for the sequencer and sound ('same' as the s950).

A lot of people that have a 60 also have an s950 to have more sample memory though.

Bottom line, get 'm both if you can if you're after that gritty 12 bit sound.

Nostalgia , yes , improve my work maybe , I wouldn't know . I can afford it so why not . That doesn't answer my question.

making decisions between the 2 is totaly subjective.. what features some peeps rate over other features all depends on the user, all depends what they use it for and how in theyre work flow, or when buying gear the main question u would ask urself (and maybe others) is how u would incorperate it into ur set up and what u could benefit. But as i said its all subjective.

So yes he was right in asking u if u need it and ur reasons u already had in mind, from that he (and others) can work out what features would be better for YOU then others.. helping YOU to make the right purchase for YOURSELF.

Or would u rather advice only catered for the dude giving it to u and not advice which would suit urself? coz thats not really advice at the end of the day and gonna cause u to make a poor investment both with ur time and money.

For once some one approaches some one in the right way in regards to answering a question bout gear they might want to incorperate into theyre set up.. only when they do the question poster actually says he answering wrong... madness.

I am a scientist . I was looking for an answer based on a logical comparison and contrast of features they both possess and the decisions others would make if they found themselves in hat situation . THis is the problem with this site. Instead of information you get this sentimental stuff . I want information that's all. Not trying to rile anyone up , I 'm not asking people to figure out why I want it . Just information . THe money involved in this purchase is not the issue . I am not cocky nor arrogant just getting a little frustrated. I hae already told you what I have and that I am interested in acquring one of these too . So based on that , if you were facing this situation which would you choose and why. No one answer as you say is right or wrong just feedback.

perhaps my question was worded wrongly , I don't want to say I need it but I would like to have one of the two. And based on that , what would those of you who already have one and /or the other use them for? Fair enough yeah this question worded much better.. gets ur actual point across in what ur wanting as a response..

As for myself i couldnt give u an answer as i havent owned either.. but i am looking to maybe add some thing else to my set up as well so kinda in the same boat as u.. which is why i checked this thred.. i just felt compelled to post what i did, although after that has been cleared up im sure u will get the responses ur lookin for.. and i also look foward to reading them..

Although away from the s950 / mpc60.. i myself am more looking to get an sp12 or sp1200 for my drums

If you want the SP for drums, get the s95o
but if you use the s9 in tandem with just about any drum machine or
equencer
you can't go wrong

i really like the sound of the sp tho.. especially with kicks, i find it sounds real distinct

WHY?

simply because 12bit machines require more time and in this day and age with so many options, being a mpc1000 user, you may not see the qualities straight away, so you might be wasting your money.

these machines DO NOT make better beats or sounds out if the box!!! this is a serious WARNING!!! it is the producer. it is cool to own some history and do your homework but if you are on a budget, there are many alternatives that will give you more flexibilty, you just have to think about it and look for the options. for example there are a couple of bona fide sample cds/downloads with drums from vintage samplers. if you are not a dogmatic purist, which you are probably not because you are already working with a mpc1000, you can get really good sounds with a bit of creative layering and resampling and of course EQ ! drum plugins, in particular Battery3, guru are EXTREMELY good, flexible options which help you organise and shape your sounds more easily, butt require a computer. you may find the same/less money gives you a HUGE arsenal of drums/sounds and change for some other important things AND more space in your home. if you are already on the mpc though and you are burning to have a 12bit machine then i woul recommend an sp12 or sp1200. that would compliment your 1000 very well, but like mentioned earlier with some creativity the 12bit sound is possible without the machines.

ONE VERY IMPORTANT FINAL NOTE.

the only machine with a really crazy natural swing is the sp12/sp1200 as this swing is global and very!!! strong. the mpc allow you to choose the elements to be "swung" as you know. any beatmaker worth their salt knows that the majority of good beats are made with quantise off! execpt for maybe crunk.

i hope this has helped you. i have owned all the machines sp12/mpc60/s950/emax and sold all. i have the sounds and i know what makes their sonic character and i can confirm that you can recreate their sound from scratch, but you must just know what their quirks are.
