I know this has been discussed to death but I have a specific set of features I'm looking for, so I'd like to get opinions with this in mind.

I work with a DAW and I have external synths, what I want from this machine is to use as a midi sequencer and as a sampler.

I plan to do a lot of sampling from vynils and from old drum machines so I want this process to be really easy and intuitive. Really if one machine makes this 2 seconds faster I want to know it. From arming recording to have the sample assigned to a pad, which one is faster?

Also, I want some auto chop feature. Record a beat from vynil, chop it and have the slices you want assigned to pads, which one is faster?

Also, I like to have machines that keep rolling and don't force me to stop the engine. So ideally I want something that lets me enter and exit record mode on the fly and change tracks all the time with the sequencer running.

about sound manipulations I want at least some sort of EQ/filter to remove bass most of the times. Don't mind if it's destructive. FX or the ability to setup fx sends with external racks is a plus so I can program some beats "ready to record"

which one you think will be best for me? I don't need bells an whistles like audio recording but what I want is something that lets me create a sample library from recording external sources easily. And the sequencer as to be great too.

Now, I know the MPC sort of does this with style, my doubt is if this process is somehow harder on the MV at the expense of more complex features.

thanks a bunch!

check out some videos on the roland site. they might answer a few questions on the mv using external sound modules and sampling/resampling.

and there are some on youtube where mike acosta demonstrates the mv 8800:

i can't help you with the mpc since i don't know the workflow. but from what i understand you are quite right: the mv might be more complex/complicated because you have more options...

hope that helps a little bit.

I own both so i will have to go with the MV.The MV is dumb easy, lol people look at it's size and automatically assume something that big must be hard to learn.WRONG.
It just has a ishload of more features than any other hardware sampler/sequencer on the market. When connected with a mouse and vga the MV REALLY shines and shows it's true colors.

You can also make a beat WITHOUT stopping the sequencer,i do this all the time for people at Guitar Center. They always walk past the MV-8800 and go straight to the mpc until they hear the tracks i start cranking out that monster then they stand over me and start asking a bunch of questions which i happily answer.Happens all the time, lol

I do all my sequencing and sampling on the mv.You can hear the mv in action on 50 cents latest hit"i get money".All done on the mv.The song you hear on the radio is a two track straight off the MV.Hope this helps.

thanks man.

i just gone crazy and pulled the trigger on a 8800. If i'd get the 8000 it'd be a matter of time until i started to GAS over the 8800.

it's done then!
