planning on getting a mpc 1k but...

i've been planning on getting a MPC 1000 and think i might like it. i almost have $1000 to buy one so while i'm waiting (i should have one by friday next week) i'm trying to make sure i'm not making a bad decision. i have browsed the forums here and i've seen in the MPC1000 forum that people are constantly complaining about the pads breaking and it's starting to make me nervous about my purchase. i have read that the MPC 2500 is the same thing as the MPC 1000 w/ JJOS but just with much better pads and some other features. Unfortunatly, i can't afford to pay $2000 on it. If my pads break will there be somewhere to get replacements (I've heard Akai isn't very good about replacing them) and is it worth getting one with the risk of the pads breaking?

yea there is a pad fix. do a search of pad + fix and see what u can come up with

$1000 for a 1k and $2000 for a 2500 means you are shopping in the wrong place.

I paid 1400 for my 2500 ant Guitar Center

yea dude I just saw a used 1k on craigslist for 500 bucks.


PS my pads work fine, but I can always order pads if I need them, plus Akai is coming out with a pad fix probably some time this year.

I think once the pad issue of the 1k is worked out, the mpc 1k w/jjos will be a formidable mpc

i got my 1k from guitar center lke 2 years ago for lik 750 or something bran new in the box. I wouldnt have dropped a g on it forsure though. Ide get some better quotes and go for it.

Found my mpc1000 on Craigslist for $550.00.Just serch your Craigslist of the city you live or go Pluker,Tweekin, Crack Head Pawn Shops.

i've seen a few mpc1000 on craigslist for 400 even...

how are yall getting them to come down on the prices at guitar center?? over here they are listed in the store for the same as the online store prices. $999 or $1999.. im getting ready to buy one too but dont know which to go with

if you dont know any one there what i would do is .. call the one you wanna buy at and be like i just quoted "X" at another gcenter (somewhere like 45 min) from that one and say i wanted to check in with you guys and see if you would do something comprabale to i dont have to drive all the way out there and so you get the sale. Those dudes work on commison. also to ask dude straight up in the store ... i wanna buy but whats the lowest you can quote me... believe me they can go low!


after all that i ALWAYS hit them up for balanced cables and all kinds of extras and be like can you throw this in, since im droppin a bunch of doe. Dont put your local GC on blast but thats how we do it

That's true about discounts at GC...but if you plan on buying alot of gear in the future, make friends with one of the cats high up in the store...keep coming back to him and he'll appreciate it and hook ou up in return. Also, you can't just go in there and be like "how much you going to take off??" cause if they don't know you, they're likely to be like "who's this kid?" you know? Just be real with them, and they should be real in return...

like said above, the big thing would be to always go to the same guy

I would not buy the 1k again, because of the missing 8 outputs... save a lil more doe and get the 2500. Plus: It uses the same pads as the 2k, which are much cheaper when it comes to replacing them. And they are said to be better... cant affirm that though

Man that is so true.
I'm the perfect example of that rule.
Yesterday my Virus TI desktop simply fried while I was working on a patch.
I went to GC where I always go and where I bought it (always deal with same salesguy) and they didn't have any desktops on stock so he simply blew me off telling me that in this case I will recieve a TI keyboard for no extra charge. I am a good and frequent customer but I never expected to recieve over $1000 discount (I know that even after that they still make a lot of profit as their margins are usually 30-50% below sale price but still, 1K is a lot of $$)
Brand new, packed, wrapped and etc.


As for the MPC 1000...
I tested it for several hours and after that I simply bought a 2000XL off EBAY.
Less memory and etc but since in general I use it for beats only and I record them into cubase after they're done the 32MB is enough. Together with the EB16 it creates perfect combo and feels way better than the 1K. That's my .02 of course

One of the pluses about the 1K is the portability....I took it with me to the beach this last week and was able to work on some new beats while I was hanging out on the patio...very convenient... as long as you got a power outlet and some headphones you can work anywhere
