It depends on your current setup really. I personally think the S3000XL has a better interface and sound for the most part. You get waveform editing which is key. Some pieces of gear warrant not having waveform editing as kind of a tradeoff for the sound ( Emax, older MPC's SP1200 ect ) but the S2000 has the same sound pretty much as an MPC 2000 or 2000XL ( which tends to eat a little depth in sounds right away, they can be tweaked to sound good but right off the sound can be a bit harsh) . If you can get it for around 50.00 I say go for it otherwise save a bit for a S3000( No waveform editing but a great sound ( Like an MPC 3000 ) ) , S3000XL, S5000, or S6000 if you are in the market for an Akai rack sampler.

What are the benefits of getting a rack mounted sampler over lets say an 2500?

What are peoples feelings on this gear?

NO. The 2000XL is better bargain on the used market. The additional and improved features make it sweeter box over the 2000 for the same money.

Like MPZ60 said, they sound the same.
