HARDRIVE

i was going to get my 80gig hd from sample kings but then i remembered about newegg and kingston where i get my flash cards from...is it possible that i can get a hd from newegg like is there really a diff? can any and all hd's work with the 2500? if so im gonna oder a 400gb hd for my 2500 for 90 bucks instead of paying 90 for a 80 gig one from a mpc site....is that cool or am i doing the wrong thing?

you can install any hard drive as long as it's compatible, so yes, it'd be better to buy it elsewhere if it's cheaper. just make sure that you research first if the hard drive will work with the 2500. there are many threads about this, so do a search and i'm sure you'll find all the info you need.

Any 2.5" Hard-drive with a IDE interface will work. Once it is under 132Gb in size, because the MPC uses FAT32 filing system which means it cant read sizes greater than 132Gb. so the biggest Hard-drive you can put in your 2500 is 120Gb unless you partition a larger drive into different sizes like if you bought a 250Gb hard drive and partitioned it into 5 parts each 50Gb in size. so it would show up on your MPC as 5 different Hard-drives at 50 Gb.

I cant believe how many people get hung up on this..Akai only reccomend those drives because those manufacturers have some sort of relationship with Akai, as in the drives are used in some of Akai's other products.

Sorry this is long-winded, but the next time you are searching for a drive look for a 120Gb 2.5" IDE Hard-drive. the price of storage has dropped alot over the years..

anything more than 40g is stupidly unnecessary! You dont need that much storage. Samples are tiny files. I have a 40g HD with a TON of shyt in it and I am currently using less than 2% of the space. But, to each his/her own.

I think it's rather because they didn't want to spend the time to test all possible drives out there, because people will come crying when a certain drive doesn't work for whatever reason.

I heard that the seek time had to be of a certain spec as well.

The tech specs match (seek times, speeds,buffer sizes etc) so their is no reason it should not work. i have not tryed it yet, but i am planning on putting in a 120Gb hard-drive into my 2500 soon.

Yea, the 1000 forum has a post about hard drives people had put in their 1000's and what worked...i'm 99.9% positive the 2500 will have the same results

I dont want to change the subject, but since the hard-drive is an upgrade, i am also looking for the 128MB ram for my 2500. i dont want to pay 100Euro ($138) for the "Akai" branded crap as i have heard that you can purchase an unbranded version for alot less...any one know i can buy the unbranded stuff on-line?

I was referring to the partitioning a disk into more than one partition. I don't think the MPC will recognize more than the first (primary) partition.

I am dying to order this one but after all the HD that proved to be NOT compatible I am afraid to waste my time and money on it.

Besides the fact that all of the specs seem to be the same, the height is not 9 mm butt 9,5, will that be a problem? I wished you already tested it Alphasatori;)

Creating a list with wordking large hardrives as in the 1K forum is not a bad idea actually.

Whatever happens, I will buy a hd tomorrow!!!

.5mm = .05cm = 0.019685039 inch's....thats very very small, it should fit like a glove

Hmm, tanks for your calculation Betasatori:) I ordered another one yesterday. The Hitachi Travelstar 5K120 (100 GB). Someone in the 1k forum confirmed that it worked so I wanted to go for sure now.
