Talk and share knowledge on rare records, sources of new samples, vinyl, diggin, etc
By muvision Fri Aug 03, 2007 7:23 am
hey whats up guys just to clear things out I am a newb to the mpc so please dont give the "search" response, anyways I have recently purchased the mpc1000 and still going through the manual but have figured most of the functions out, and I'm mainly into hip hop music(undergound hiphop, radio hip hop) I wanted to get some new samples but dont know exactly where and which one to get since there are already so many advertisements on this forum, online, and ebay. Is it worth purchasing these samples for $50 online? its quite alot of money for just samples but if you guys tell me its worth every single penny than most likely I will purchase it, but if you guys know any cheaper places to get samples or even download them for free that would help alot to me. Also has anyone purchase any of the hip hop samples on ebay? if so how good are they compare to these $40-50 dollar samples online.

Thought I'd better get in quick before c0mplex starts a debate about vinyl vs mp3s

Do you use a computer? If so hit up some mp3s there are loads all over the net, even some on this forum.

Do you own or plan on getting a turntable? Buy a ishload of old records after doing some research and sample them.

Peace

hahah whats that sh!t??? U know i wouldnt have even said anything in the lines of a "debate in this thred".. i was only going to mention i sell break compilations for cheap.. with alot of dope sh!t on for peeps to build with.

Its u tryin to cuss and go on like that which is gonna get me rattled.. what is the point in posting a lil personal attack at some one like that bro? thats some silly sh!t i thought u was above that sh!t. Thats just gonna get a response in the lines of an argument isnt it?

I have no problem with people building from mp3s.. i also do myself. which i have said 100 plus times but people seem to ignore those lines with theyre selective reading

When i speak on diggin i speak on the diggin scene not generalizing on diggin / beat making as the same thing..

When i speak about mp3's as not being diggin im talkin bout it being things some one else has dug.. and choosen to share... that it is sharing in some ones record collection not actually "diggin" and uncovering new things (or old things)..

But if u read fully and not selectivly browsed over posts maybe u would understand.

See people read half of sh!t.. then put it together in theyre own way..

So dont speak on me without understanding.

I also put together break compilations for peeps to build with.. i build from comps, build from mp3's... and dig for records... i have no problem with either.

I just simply state digging is "digging".. is diggin through crates and uncovering breaks... mp3's is sharing in some one elses collection... sharing in what they have dug and choosen to record to mp3 and share.

Continue.. i just had to clarify that for the peeps who choose not to read posts correctly then come name droppin tryin to call peeps out on some bullsh!t that dont even imply.. by doing that u have just showin ur own stupidity and un ability to read posts fully and pick up on all parts not just selective ones.. and take things in the right context (which is easy when sh!ts read properly).

Fair enough this is a forum.. and text can be taken differently.. but only when peeps in such a rust to reply to the point they dont read sh!t properly then take time to let the info sink in and think a lil before making theyre next move.

Sorry if i come across a lil harsh in this... but ur comment there was bullsh!t and out of line.. just coz this is a forum and u safe behind ur screen dont give u the right to be actin like a pr!ck tryin to call people out using such bullsh!t.

That comment dont hold no ground and sh!t wouldnt go on how it does if forum members read PROPERLY and THOUGHT about sh!t lettin info sink in before trying to be so quick with theyre responses.

And i better also repeat (so those people have the chance to re read before they rush into things) that i have NO PROBLEM with building from mp3's i use them myself.. and distribute them for peeps to build with on lil compilations etc.

Before u go on callin peeps out in the kiddy forum way, think twice next time. I thought u was cool before and didnt act like that.. its one thing for peeps to debate with valid opinions on things regardless how argumentative debates can get.... but totally different to come how u just did then. Dont start that sh!t.

Chill out dude, I was being sarcastic, not calling you outin any way.

I understand you getting bothered esp. with other cats on this forum, but in no way was I trying to start any ish.

It was meant in a light hearted manner. I know where you come from, you're one of the few guys a=on here that appreciate digging for what it truly is, compared to some "where can I find samples like (insert nme producer) from?"

Don't be calling me no names either. I thought you of all peeps had the ability to rise above it.

Peace

Honestly , do everything . Get Samples from Librarys , MP3's , Dig for records, use VCR tapes, record your dad mowing the lawn , whatever it is . Stack the sounds on top of each other, never limit where you get samples from and especially do not let someone lead you into thinking the source of where you got your sample will make you lame. You have a sampler with thousands of editing possibilities and that is the true art of sampling , manipulation. With the attitude of listening to people you trying to limit you or your attitude toward a particular sound will have you grow tired of sampling very fast. The one thing that has kept me going all of these years is the endless possibilities of sound you actually have with an instrument tht can record any sound that we can hear and better yet twist it up. I have many samplers and the 1000 is my main baby right now. Listen to people for tricks but never by any means let them shape your creativity in a negative of limiting way..... More specific in regards to the sample CD's I think it is a matter of trial and error really of what you like, I would problably look at the feedback of the buyer and the amount of sounds you get if you are going to pay for them. To get you started look around on google for drum machine samples vinyl samples , whatever... there are tons of free samples on the web if you look around, there was also a pretty good post thread called "kit of the week" that had some cool drum samples..

Word Up..

I don't mean to burst your bubble complex, cause I think digging and sharing mp3s is nice and all....but I wouldn't really "build" with mp3s if you're taking this sh!t seriously. Mp3s are a lossy format and any producer or engineer worth their salt will be able to pick mp3 samples out instantly due to the ugly distortion you get when you compress files to mp3s. Not only that, but the bottom end of the spectrum on mp3s is just garbage.
I'd say collecting mp3s to listen to and get ideas from is great, I do it, but unless you're planning on releasing to mp3 format only i wouldn't build them into your tracks.

I'm not trying to come down on you, just trying to save you a little heart-ache later.

Peace.

I know several serious and respected producers who have taken samples from MP3's, there's even those who take direct from peeps mixtapes that the source material was originally MP3!!!!

AS FAR AS MP3z Go NOT ALL MP3 ARE CREATED EQUAL...................

LETZ BE CLEAR...........I Mean I've Heard Mp3 in the 90k that Are C-R-A-P

BUT I HAVE ALSO MADE MANY MP3 AT 320k or 256k that where perfect.......

AND Sounded GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There A Couple of things To Always Consider.....................

-Source Material

-Conversion Software

-Original Bandwith

And Final MP3 Compression Rates......................

Believe Me these Things ALL MAke A BIG Difference in the END RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
