Yo, I asked the people at sweetwater this too I''ll have to see what type of reply I get from them there... But anyway I have a mpc 1000 but never reallly got into using it a whole lot because I dont have a keyboard. I make music on my pc but I wanted to know if it was possible to have the best of both worlds... which is to be able to do my drums on my mpc and do all the melody stuff using vst's from my pc both going into an 003 as a mixer until I feel like bounding it over to pro tools for tracking... I was told by my friend I could not do it cause I would only be able to hear one track from the pc at a time which i still dont understand and if that is the case what is the purpose to getting crazy expensive vst east west type joints if the only time that you will be able to use them is if you have everything all ready tracked out in pro tools and add tracks with the vsts on them.

you should be able to use the mpc has the master clock to sync everything and have it control the midi that will trigger the vst. Is this possible or am I just dreaming?

And I am sorry if it is hard to read I was doing this a work thinking about stuff I wanted to do when I get home.
And no I dont have an 003 yet I was trying to figure out could I buy one and do what I am suggesting above or do I need to buy the keyboard first and just not be able to track beats to protools unless i record everything considering how the mbox1 does not support midi.

damn this is long I was only suppose to be on here for a quick question and wrote a book.
music is so much better than curcuits.

You can use FL as a sound module. The mpc would control everything.
You'll need a midi to usb adapter. Get an adapter, connect the midi ends to the appropriate midi in/out on the mpc. Connect the usb to the pc.
(May have to install drivers. A driver cd should come with the adapter)
Open FL and under Midi options choose to sync midi clock to external. Now on the mpc just turn the midi one. I'm quite sure you'll have to assign certain vst's to certain tracks in FL.

I have Reason & FL but haven't used FL in a long while. I use Reason. The same principles should apply when using midi.

we were talking about this on a different forum too. i use fl and mpc together. they work pretty good together. the only problem with fl is i cant assign midi track 1 to channel one and midi track 2 to channel 2 and so on. actually there is a way using fl as a vst in savihost, but i couldnt get it to work. i didnt spend that much time either.

Ok so when it comes to playback how would that work? Where are the sounds coming from the mpc or the pc? and would I still need a pc midi adapter for hooking up my mpc I have one that is midi to usb for my keyboard, do i just need another one of those? And so in this instance I dont really need to upgrade to and 003 just yet? but I thought it would be the audio interface fro just this type of thing...? ( I know I still have to get one I need the extra ins and outs and I am tired of having to go home then mix and track with the mouse after seeing how easy it could be over my at my mans spot)

as far as the other forum... I already know that you can use the pads of the MPC to trigger FL that is not what I am asking I want to know If pretty much can I have a mpc beat then and vsts to it through protools or FL as a plugin in pro tools and hear everything together as if it was all coming from one place... with the only thing connecting everything is the digi 003.

well, you can have both running at the same time in unison. you would have to sync fl to the mpc in the mpc's midi window(mode + 9 i think), then you could have your vst patterns, already recorded in fl, play along with the drums sequenced in the mpc. when you get the song/sequence right, you would just record your drum patterns to fl. i think thats what your asking, if not try to re phrase it for me, im a little slow

yeah, midi to usb will work fine. i had an m-audio midi sport 2x2 which is exactly that. and it worked fine.

but I thought it would be the audio interface fro just this type of thing...?

you would need an audio interface to record the audio from the mpc to the computer. a workaround would be to chop your samples in fl, create the loop to your liking and then bring them over to fl and drop them into fpc. remember to match tempos.

yeah, you can do that in fl. again, you just have to sync them together. and then to record you would need to either, have an interface, or resample and bring it into fl.

let me know if you need more help.

Ok I think that we are pretty much talking about the same thing but is it not the 003/002/mbox2/maudio/whatever... that is the interface.

yep. and thanks only other problem that I can think of right now is does the mpc and FL know what bar it is in once synced? like for instance if I make an 8 bar drum pat on the mpc or sample loop or whatever, then in FL make a 16bar melody would FL get to the end of bar 8 and go back to one with the mpc or will it play to the 16th bar then go back to one. It is kind of the samething and easy to work around if it does as long as you keep the number of bars in both to be a even number like 4, 8, 16, 32... just was wondering

i also just thought about it... I would only need to have the pc conected to the interface to get all this to run like I want it.?. :?

the midi keyboard would now hook up to the mpc then the mpc would go to the interfacethen the interface to the pc and it should reconize everything and when I get the dough to add the XS-8 that can be added as well in the same fashion or replace the midi keyboard, but I probably would not do that.

if you have an 8 bar drum loop in the mp, and a 16 bar synth pattern in fl, the mp will loop at bar 8 and fl will play out the 16 bars. assuming that you have matching tempos.

yeah you can run the midi keyboard thru the mpc and control fl. you would have to make sure that the track of the mpc has the the correct midi group set(a or b).

if your midi keyboard runs on usb, make sure that it is connected to either one or the other, (usb or mpc) otherwise you will end up with notes stacked on top of each other.

I was thinking that :( Are you sure? cause isnt all the clock data coming from the mpc and doesnt that include position. Right  It does in pro tools if I am not mistaken.

yeah, i do it all the time

you cant change the clock position with the arrows so i guess it gets lost somewhere in the process. if you turn off the loop function on the main screen it will play to the end and thats it. but as long as loop is on, they will both keep playing.

Thanks for the help and one last thing that i dont know if we cleared up
youre talking about the loop function on the mpc right?
