How do you stop a midi keyboard from triggering pads?

Hi, How do you stop a midi keyboard from triggering the pads? when i'm trying to record a midi track every time i keep triggering the samples on the pads, can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong, thanks Joe.

Thanks for the reply, also i did'nt realize that you could use more than 1 program in a sequence, i thought you could only use 1 program per song plus midi, the MPC is much more powerful than i realized.
