I just got an MPC 1000 today. I'm trying to take samples from mp3s that I have on my mac. How can I go about doing this? What format to the files have to be in?

Also, is there a way I can sample from the headphone out of my mac?

Please get back to me. Peace.

You can export directly to wavefiles, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz out of QuickTime via
the "export" command. If you want just a portion of your mp3 file, you
can set the start and end sliders and copy that portion to the clipboard.
Then you choose "new player" under the file menu and you paste the clipboard content into the empty player window.

From there you can export as a wave file, and after you've done "sampling"
you hook up your MPC by USB and transfer your samples to the internal HD or the cardreader.
Seems complicated til you've done it once. Saves time and your files stay
digital all the way through the process. (No DA-AD conversion)
