classic 2000 , where to buy scsi external card reader?

yo whats good all. my boy just copped a classic 2000 for 275. he relaced the screen adn the floppy drive and now it works like a charm. he doesn't want to cop a zip drive external after he saw my xl and zip drives clash and destroy the 3 discs i had. i know you can get external card readers for the 2k, but i don't know where to look. can some one send me a link or something so i can tell my boy and he can order one. hell i might order one too. aight thanks yall. peace

ive found two of them, one was $20 nzd which is just over $10 us and another for $1 brand new in its box. theyre so cheap here in nz because no one has any use for them. but my xl does word up.

i took out the floopy drive last night and im gona adapt one of the external ones to fit in the box of the floppy drive, wish me luck.

but the xl is clean as inside, you just need the right adapters for the scsi pin and you can slap it on in there.

is there a site I can order them from? cause I aint paying $170 for a card reader I already installed a internal zip drive on my 2kxl and have a usb zip drive on the pc, but my pc already has a 52 in 1 card reader and I wouldnt mind putting a card reader in the 2kxl and selling/sending the zip drives to someone on these forums.

word. yeah man i agree. i mean an external one for my boy and and internal one for me would be nice. and i aint paying 170 for external one and 16 for internal. thats too high. but my zip drives are dead and i'm stuck using floppies.

I hear you on $170 being too much.

HOWEVER, if you look at any equipment you buy as some sort of investment, its not that much. If you look at it as piece of mind because there are no ZIP discs/drives to go bad (CoD), its not that much. If you look at the convenience of little a$$ media that you can easily use to share files between your MPC and PC, its not that much (but you could do the same thing with the Zip drives, so this is not a real big selling point, unless you consider CoD). If you look at the fact that you should be able to move the external joint to ANY device with a SCSI port, its not that much. If you consider how quiet the card reader is, its not that much. If you consider the cost of getting one installed in a 2k classic by VST or Forat, its REALLY not that much!

But, yeah, it is kind of phucked up that the sh!ts cost that much, but it is what it is. I stopped thinking about the cost AFTER I got my external. But that's also the price of interfacing with old technology that is still relevant today.

To add to Mello's list, there is also the time that is involved trying to track down an external enclosure that is compatible with the MPC. I looked for three months, trying to put together an external card reader for my classic. I finally broke down and dropped the $180 for one. Of course now that I bought it I'm getting rid of my 2000 in favor of the smaller 1000 for traveling. If you need an external card reader check my post in the for sale forum.

Exactly! I thought about just buying an internal reader without the external enclosure, but then I thought how much of my time would it take for me to install the internal reader in an external enclosure, make sure the SCSI ID settings on the enclosure worked, etc, etc. It didn't take me long to figure out the time it would have taken me would have cost more than the $25 or whatever that they charge for the internal already installed in the external enclosure.

HOWEVER, IF you want to just buy the internal and do it yourself, watch eBay because they auction them there sometime, and after not winning an auction, one of them contacted me about buying it straight from them for like $25 less than they sell them for on the website. They know they are selling them for WAY more than they are really worth. Some of the auctions don't hit the price from the site, and I'm fairly certain they aren't crying about the auction price.

Bottom line is do what you gotta do, and be comfortable with your decision.

word i am gonna definately just cop the internal from vst for my 2kxl, and my boy is gonna stick with zips until he can find the enclosure. he found a drive on craigslist for 20 bucks and is looking for the closure now. thanks all
