BACKUP 2GB COMPACT FLASH CARD...

Hi.

I have all my sequences, drums, programs, samples all on one compact flash disk. If something happens to this disk then i would have lost all my work and im sure youll all agree, that youd be devistated. I want to backup my disk more regularly but the only way i can think of doing it is loading as many sequences into memory at one time and swapping disks and then saving them and doing the same thing with the programs. This will take a very long time and its very tedious. Does anyone have any other ideas on how i could back up my disk. In the past ive tried to put it into the computer (mac) and it messes it up, renames files and programs and files are missing and the programs and sequences dont load properly

Any advice would really help.

well ill let you in on my little secret,

when ever I record out a song, I slap it onto tape first.

But that isnt for files, but you could do that anyway with your samples if you wanted to.

i back it up on a computer and then burn to cd or dvd. take my compact flash card every now and then.....insert it into my pc (which has several card slots uncluding the cf slot)...transfer the files....and then keep a copy on the computer and/or cd rom or dvd rom.

yea but for me if i do that the files get messed up and when you put it back into the mpc, everything is renamed and the programs wont load properly as they are looking for files that have been renamed. I used to use 100mb zips. They were full up and the mpc said they had about 2 mb of space left. when i put them into my mac it said that they were only half full. Its very strange?? Im just worried if i do this again its going to mess up again..
Any thoughts?

the only thing i can think of is renaming the files...meaning....that when you put it back in the mpc...names get cut down to 8 charaters (I THINK). so make sure that your file names are no more than 8 chatracters, yet...distinct. or...mpc editor might help to solve your issue. i wonder if there's any software out there that can read mpc seq and programs...hmm...if so.....that would be an option.

do you use memory cards? If so which ones? Do you not have a problem when you plug it into the computer for backup. It doesnt rename the files? When you come ot putting those files back onto a card and put them back in the mpc, you have no probs?

I use CF cards with my 2K. The only time I had problems was when I first got the CF reader and I had filenames that were longer than 8 characters. After renaming to 8 characters or less, no issues.

I am using a PC though, not a Mac.

I've been dealing with the same problem. I put a zip drive in my Mac, and when I try to get the files off the zip drive, it does all sorts of weird crap to the files. I've even tried making straight disk images of the zips, and it's no good. I think once you get that file from MPC Program maker that keeps PCs from effing up your disks, your better off doing it that way.

I think there might be something in the Mac OS that messes with MPC Files. So I think you need to back it up on PC. In order to do that (from what I understand) is download MPC Program maker. It comes with a little installation file that prevents the windows OS from messing up your MPC Disks. I think you could probably just copy everything off your disk/flash card that way. I have not tried this yet, but I'm about to.
I still have not found a way to make my mac get along with my mpc files.
