Sustain pedal

is there a way i can get a sample like say it was a beeping noise, how can i set it to when i just hold it down and it makes a continues sound. or do i have to use a sustain pedal for this?

First of all what is a sustain pedal(just curious)?As far as making one sound repeat itself you would need to loop it.DiViNCi from The Sollilaquists Of Sound did that with a snare.Check it out here http://youtube.com/watch?v=j42SdmiU0kg .Also make sure to have the pad(s) your using set as NOTE ON.Hope that helps..

I do this a lot to make my own little synth-type programs, just loop a tiny tiny portion of whatever and make a chromatic program.

You're looking for the the NOTE ON function

Oh, and sustain pedals are for keyboards, for - you guessed it - sustaining a note. Don't think these work with an MPC

Ok maybe little misunderstanding, you cant plug the sustain pedal into the mpc, but the mpc understands sustain-messages, So you can plug it into your keyboard, press it, press a pad and the note off event will be held back till you release the pedal. Thats why theres an option "sustain pedal to duration"

yeah. the only other advice for what you are trying to do first it is good that you are doing this with an easy sound like a beep they are pretty much a sin wave. But just make sure that when you cut this little slice of the sound that it is starting and stoping at zero (the horz line in the trim screen) if it is not you will hear cliping. And to have a more natural sustain sound (a sound that dies off the longer it is played) you might need to be creative in this department till you get the sound you are looking for.

how do sustain pedals work and footswitches? are they midi devices and what are the 2 quarter inch cables in front of mpc next to foot switch?

no they are not midi the way I seen them used is they start stop and and start and stop recording so you never have to pull away from the keyboard. they can even be set to move up and down through tracks.

footswitchs can do that with quarter inch cables???? i thought quarter inch could only send audio not commands

Right, but as far as using a sustain pedal direct into the MPC and sustaining the notes/samples on your pads -- that's what I meant doesn't work.

quick question what on this list will not work with the mpc1000? im confuesd on footswitches and those midi pedals and so on

Dual sets of MIDI ports are included on the rear panel, and dual front panel footswitch inputs are available to be mapped to control specific pads, tempo or start/stop functions.

I did not look to find one of the specific units that does this,I have no real aspiration to use one and mostly people that perform live are the ones that use this type of things mybad if i was not clear a footswitch is not a sustain pedal in any way. This gadget is not different than if anyone here has seen a type of any bassist (victor wooten, bootsy, marcus miller) or guitarist play and record a riff through a footswitch then play it back to play a solo or another riff one on top of the other to make a whole song with one instrument... like I said I have seen this only done with a bass player but the concept is the same for the mpc as a matter a fact I wonder were they using an mp and it was just out of visibilty.

On the mpc you plug a foot switch which is nothing else than a simple switch adapted for foot use, if you know what I mean. All it does is repeat one of the functions on the front panel, if your hands are tied up when you want to punch in during MIDI recording, or you could play one of the pads with your foot for example.

If anyone is planning on buying one, make sure you get one with the right polarity, or one that has a polarity switch on it. They are some times called sustain pedals. If you are unsure, take your mpc with you to the store to see if it is compatible.

You could also make one yourself, it is really simple.
