mpc2000xl os1.14 will not stay in internal mem... pls help!!

hi,

okay, i haven't so much as solved my last problem as had a lucky escape from it, but now i'm presented with another one.

when i turn my 2000xl on (standard, with floppy) it says 'insert mpc2000xl disc!' EVERY time. i have loaded it via the load menu, which erases flash blocks then writes flash memory, says everything is complete and asks to press a key to restart... and then on boot it asks for the disc again and loads the os from the floppy.

this is really annoying, and whilst not as soul crushing as my last problem is something i really want to get sorted asap. (not least because if i can't do it i pretty much can't install the cardreader)

Flash Memory Battery???

In Synthesizers it has a battery to hold the Sound Presets in Storage.
And if battery gets empty they lost their Sounds.
You have to change the Battery and load the Sounds new.

Maybe the same happens with the MPC OS?

it crossed my mind that there might be a board battery which might have died somehow, it's something to look into i guess. i have a feeling the cause is something else though, i hope someone knows for sure?

I've just figured this out!!!!


you need to make sure that your primary device is the flash rom and autoload is set to off (in load>setup). when you switch off and on again, they will default back to floppy/aps+all but it only needs to be done the once to get the os to boot from flash rom.


i'm so glad i managed to figure this out

there's a possibility this will sort out the problem i was having installing the card reader too... hm, shall try when i have time to open it up again
