I know this isn't a turntable forum but is there anyway to hook a turntalbe up to your PC ? thanks guys peace ...ONE ....

theres a TT that i have had customers tell me about that has a usb cord ,it's a digital turntable.

another way is hook up thru your sound card via RCA/some converter box of course you would have to use a mixer to boost the sound.

I had a friend call me up and ask me about that turntable with the USB, he saw it at Costco: http://www.ion-audio.com/index.php

I hadn't heard of it, so I checked out their site, and came to the conclusion that it's pretty lame... the turntable isn't digital at all, they're just using a USB cable to send audio! They include Audacity (a freeware program) and you just record the audio the same as you would if you used your comp's line in jack... No digital information is passed along the USB cord, the turntable's not equipped with no computer bits or nothing...

the only thing I see worthwhile is you could record to your computer, using Audacity, with no pre-amp. And it plays 78s. 89 dollars could get you a really nice used turntable though, and some wax to record (Audacity is free). Use your line in jack, use usb, it's just an audio signal...

I think there are some turntables that have computer brains and are converting analog to digital and have digital outs, maybe... but this ION one isn't one of them...just sending audio signal over a usb cord.

Audacity is really easy to use though, as for the original question--just plug your sound into your comp's line in, check your levels, and record like you would with a tape player... export as mp3, wav, whatever...

I heard something about the sound of the Ion being questionable. The dude already has a Technics 1200. I'm pretty sure he could find a cheap mixer or pre amp that will do him much better than buying an Ion.

Plus, we have no idea, maybe dude has access to a lot of cash.

Basically, you have your technics 1200 right? It has those two plugs for sound. You need to plug that into a mixer or receiver or pre amp. Connect those to the "Phono In" jacks, or else its just not going to work.

Take the main outs of the mixer, receiver, or pre amp and connect that to your computers soundcard or "line in" jack.

Also, for questions like this, it's best to go ask in the Newbie Forum.

Just buy yourself a RIAA amplifier, a little box that brings the TTs level up to line level, and does the necessary RIAA equalization. This will be pretty cheap and give you good sound results. Check out Hi Fi stores that sells turntables, and thay propably sell RIAA amps too.

If you have a bad soundcard on your computer you would consider buying a good stereo soundcard aswell.

Another thing you could do is to buy a soundcard for your computer that has a built in phono preamp.
