MPC Accessory Questions

1. EB16 Sampleverb: does this thing cost $330 EVERYWHERE? Sheesh!! Anyone attempt to self-install it?

2. MFC42 Filter Module: this doesn't appear to be very popular, yet it seems useful, in concept anyway. Any testimonials?

3. SMPTE card: how popular is this accessory?

4. MPD16: I hear nothing but complaints about this thing, it seemed like such a good idea, too. Akai's first flop?

5. 8 OUTS/SPDIF option: seems like the accessory you'd eventually have to get...anyone do without it indefinitely?

1. not that good and on E-Bay u can get em for under $200 on the right day

2. Expensive and I heard is not really worth it. Might want to mess with software or look around for a dedicated rack unit

3. Not popular to people like us. Smpte code synchs up equipment like analog multitracks and video recorders. They use the ish for scoring movies. If you ever look on a movie reel the little holes or SMPTE. MIDI is the controller method that most of us rock.

4. Pad midi controller and is alright I heard. Way to expensive.

5. 8-outs are almost a nessitty to make your beats sound professional. you can really make a real track with these and a mixer

Well I purchased an 8 output and hope to get the EB16, but I've read that the EB16 is a better investment then the 8 output, you can have like 6 outs and effects, etc. so I read....

The 8-outs is definitely a better investment over the EB16 . If you have the 8-outs you can freak particular sounds w/ outboard gear and w/ the EB16 your'e stuck w/ the effects that are in it (which aren't all that great) . I got the EB16 last summer (it was easy to self-install , one screw) and out of all of the effects it comes w/ the only ones worth really using are the delay and reverb (but very lightly because it is a pretty cheesy reverb) . The 4-band EQ is str8 garbage and the tremelo is if-fy too . I'm using the MPC2000 though so they might have upgraded the EB16 for the XL . I just got the MFC42 and the sh!t is off the f#ckin' hook !!! It takes a bit to finesse it but if you like that Pete Rock / Jay Dee sound it's worth the money . The only time you'll probably need SMPTE is if your'e laying a cut down at a place like the Hit Factory and if you got a budget like that , f#ck it . . . . . . let the label buy the piece . And the MPD16 I can't even call it . I'm from the old, grimey, hands-on multi-track days so I'm like a caveman w/ the computer shtuff (I'm having a hard time navigating this site) . Hmm, I was wondering how powerful that filter was, I don't want to undestimate it. It has inputs for a turntable, correct?

...and you got a fellow CroMagnon man right here dude, lol...I fooled many a person with my Tascam 8-tracks days into thinking I had a SP1200, lol
