My recent dig

Spent around 20 Dollars or so... Nothing crazy, but I enjoy all of them ...









The Pinkish Superman and the Percussion and Brass is mint sealed (look like the day they were made.

Not crazy great, but I'm not posting it all, nor the Chess Records I've seemed to be grabbing lately.

And I know some soundtracks out there are wack, but honestly I love them, and you can not usually find the CDs/ mp3s for most of them... The Moog Close Encounters is super dope.

I just recently snagged that CEOTTK OST as well, did yours come with the single in there as well? according to goldmine's that record is worth $25 in mint with both records.

Holy Crap, I just opened it up, and it does... Wow, didn't even know a mini was hiding in there. Both are mint... and the case in mint too (cept for the lower corner minor ding), just not sealed..

I might as well go pick up another one, there were about 3 there in my condition, 2 now...

keep in mind goldmines ratings, imo, have nothing to do with reality (ebay is a much better test). but I like to tell my self my collection is worth $2K or something ridiculous, when I only paid .50 cents per at the thrift shop.

Must admit,

MY digging has gotten easier then in the past.

I dig where I work. I work the back room of a comic/record/ toy/ dvd store handling their eBay Customer Service sales, shipping, post office deliveries, just to name a few. In the front is the Records/ comics/ dvds and stuff.

I dig during my lunch breaks and before and after work. Sometimes I check eBay before I buy what I pull, sometimes I don't care. But just having ebay on the ready, makes it really easy. I usually don't waste the time though, because part of digging is the mystery of finding a gem by mistake.

Best is pulling what I want from what doesn't sell on eBay (thus why I seem to be catching alot of Blue Notes/ Chess joints, that just didn't sell. Also I have a 40 percent discount, and usually more, depending on how much I buy.

It's not as easy as it sounds though.

1) we have this dude who comes in on Saturday's that goes through the owners collection to tell him what's worth the real dough. Kinda sucks, cuz I'll never probably get to get a 100+ dollar record for 2 bucks, but I've made friends with the dude, and now have him pulling stuff for me as well. Whenever a Skull Snaps or Incredible Bongo comes across, its mine. Even the crazy expensive stuff, I can get on the cheap though, so its not that bad.

2) The worst, it kills me seeing people come in to dig, and just wondering, what they are finding. It's torture.


And the best best part?

The fact that theres 1,000s and 1000s of records in the basement (45s 33s, 78s) and in next door storage.

ebay is a joke for pricing, you need to do your footwork to be able to get a more acurate price rating ,but i rather go thru goldmine or GEMM before ebay.

ebay is overrated and is only good for a few days ,IT'S MORE OF AN IN THE MOMENT TYPE THING. cause one momoent it's hot another it's NOT.

I understand what your saying, but it has a huge impact on everything in terms of second hand value vs. price guides. Its an active gauge of the market for anything thats sellable. The fact that things change every week, makes it even more important. Like a stock market with goods.

My value of my vinyl is higher then any price guide or eBay bid could probably be. I haven't sold one record I've bought. Just had them stolen, and thats been less then 10 total.

you must only buy records from a dollar bin then, cause if you where to pay real money for a record you would get your moneys worth. i'm not sayin all records but,SORRY sometimes thrift's and dollar bins dont CUT IT FOR ME, you can't always find what your lookin for ,for a buck SORRY.

yeah i mean there's something to be said for expediting the process of finally getting that one record, you know...

time is money, even my time... If I know I can walk right in and find it boom, maybe it's 15 dollars when it could be five, but I get it NOW, and I don't have to search dollar bins for it ever again... is hours and hours or even minutes and minutes worth your time? I have a pretty flexible schedule even, compared to most, and I don't have all day to sit at the back of the Goodwill looking for The Absolute Best Deal...

it aint like that. it's just records stores have been around and so have the proce guides so dont knock them, sure there not acurate all the time , but where do you think these guys get an idea of what to charge when they put up on ebay?HOMEWORK...meaning checking price s and doin foot work ,walking and shop at store look at there prices's,....what you have to understand about price guides is that they give you a price for a mint copy of a record, and what are the chances of finding a really mint record in the dollar bin or at the thrift pretty slim, DONT GET ME WRONG , i have found some NM records.
i dont put a price on my collection cause it's only worth to me what i know i have spent on them, so one mentioned that they pull the stuckers off so that people wont calculate how much they spend on records. thats funny cause , if you were to buy them records when they first came out then your collection would be worth way more RIGHT? records when i started buying back in 76 was $1.49 for 7" @musicfactory 12"s were 5.99-7.99 depending on what it was. you would pay 8.99 to 11.99 for a LP
now thats money. to day these kids got it easy paying a dollar, they didnt have those back then, that didnt come in to play till the 80's, shoot i use to pay50-75 cent for records at the thrifts store back then.

all i'm trying to say is that ebay took the fun out of buying records both price wise and diggin wise, like i said before i only use ebay on certain records that i want or cant find and even that sometimes i just got to pass up cause it hurts me more to bid and lose a rcord then seen it on the wall of a record store with the price that is more afordable, even 200 bucks on a record on the wall is better then buying on ebay where you prolly pay more .

it's not about time for me i dont work anymore , so to me it's just going out to look and price and see what i can find.
i prolly have the life that everyone wants , stay home make music , buy records,and watch my family.

and compared to other habits, buying records is actually pretty cheap, and constructive (especially if you're making beats with all these records)...I have friends that do cocaine. Not cheap, not very productive... I know guys that spend hundreds of dollars a week golfing--wtf is THAT???

Records is, on a cost per unit time standpoint, pretty cheap...

people that eat out every meal, or buy coffees and cigarettes and stuff...that adds up too, and you got no repeat usage you know...

lol at the whole rationalization of buying too many records!!! :lol:
