Correct list of Akai rack samplers corresponding to mpc's

Yea make sure you get the OS disk with the emax, its a nightmare to find.

Mpc 2500 = Texas instruments TI-EC3 calculator.

MPC3000 = S3000, the S1000 etc are a bit different sounding than the S3000. (The S3200 is from the same series as the S3000, has a bit better converters in it)

The MPC60 is indeed based on the S900/950, but they changed de converters so that it sounded more HiFi (Better sounding). The S950 can sound a lot nastier than the 60.

MPC2000/2000XL = Based on S3000xl (Series, so also S2000)

MPC4000 is based on the Z4

The rest is based on hot air

ok ok, so just to make it absolutely 100% clear....
if I want the sound of an MPC 3000- I buy the s3000?

and if i want MPC 60 sound- I buy the s900/950

and if i want sp12 sound - i buy the emax?

this correct?


P.S- as i said above, my college were selling off old akai rack sampler but i can't remember what model. I know it was either the s2000 or the s1000.....are these worth buying or will they not give me old school quality sound?

That was the sampler the developers were always aiming to build. It marks the peak of all there development.

The emu's after that, are after the original founders left emu. And emu turned into a different kind of company.


I don't know, you know the emulator 3 is out there, you just never think of it.

I just cant stress this enough...

You got a 16 bit sampler, that is like so much better then anything else you cant compare it. Then you got a full sequencer from the people that brought you sp1200.

Basically I would probably say this must be a hot contender for best electronic instrument ever made.

To be honest tho, I wouldn't want to own one. Its like to much responsibility.

Like if you gave it to me, I would just leave it in a field, I couldn't handle it..

yeah i understand that they aren't identical, but those are the closest matches though, right?

Also, when you say that the s950 can sound "nastier" than the 60, do you mean in the good way or the bad?

damn, there is one for sale in my area for $300 but guy says you can't save to the disk drive so i think i'll have to pass on the op. bummer though cuz it looks real sweet.

Don't pass on it!

EIIIs almost always have an internal harddrive to boot from and the SCSI performs fine with a $10 Zip Drive.

If it's working (booting) then it's worth it.

Also, the floppy drive can be replaced with the TEAC drives anyway.

Then it ain't an EIII. That's the earlier EII. Sounds good but not the same as an EIII. EII sound is closer to SP1200 and Emax (but cleaner).

EIII is a different beast (it's the top one in the picture below) ...

hmmm.. well then. An EII without a drive is a sampler asking for a real commitment. I wouldn't get it.

yeah if it's a EIII then don't pass it up the drives are standard to change mines got diffrent one from the original.

Mines got a 300mb drive in it when they came out they had something like 40mb in so that should not be a problem.
