I just don't get it. Help me.

I just can't get it
I got the part where I have to use seperate drum program slot to use the chromatic guitar program, but now I am having hard time sequencing the two drum program slots together.

On drum slot 1 I have my drum pgm, and on drum slot 2 I have the chromatic assigned guitar which I am triggering with my midi controller.

seq-1, tr-1, I do the melody with my controller then copy to seq-2. On seq-2, tr-2, everything's fine. I hear my melody so I over dub with a quick kick and snare. Then I copy to seq-3. On seq-3, tr-3, my melody is gone and all I hear is my kick and snare.

Please help me out.

i'm kind of at a loss as to why you are coping a whole sequence just to have a particular instrument play (for that matter, why you would make a whole new thread for a thread you started earlier).

you have full access to 64 track on each sequence. each track can have any of the DRUM programs assigned to them. for example, track 1 of the sequence can be assigned to DRUM1 with all your kick/snare samples. track 2 can be assigned to DRUM2 with that chromatic guitar program you were trying to play.

to switch tracks simply select the track name with your cursor and move the jog wheel or hit the "track+" or "track-" to toggle through tracks in the main screen. to copy those track hit "edit" and select "copy" to duplicate the parts you need from the individual tracks (can be specific to pads and bar position if you so desire). the copy function can also merge tracks as well as overwrite/replace them. this is alot easier than creating whole new sequences every time you need to copy a piece from one to the other.

in your case, just do your sequence setup just as my example outlines and you should be fine.

But don't you create songs with sequences, and not tracks?

I did the guitar on sequence/track 1 than hit "edit" then "copy", and that bring me to sequence/track 2 where I would do the drums. Then I do the same edit/copy to sequence 3 to do the bass line or whatever, but for some reason I don't hear the melody anymore when I play back.

I don't know... maybe I am doing this whole damn thing wrong.

You're doing some of the damn thing wrong for sure. You don't need to copy the track in seq 1 just to lay down another track.
First record your guitar or whatever on seq1/ track 1.
Now change to track 2 in the main screen, select a new (or the same ) program with sounds and record another part, let's say drums.

When you get to the point when you have a nice beat going, start thinking about copying tracks to another sequence to add some variations. Then put those sequnces together in songmode.

i'll give you 2 months before you'll never want to use FL studio again.

hehe.. yo cat there are alot of people on the forum that are like that. you have to watch what you say or they are going to have their way with you by having a good laugh at your expense. it's all for jokes though...

i understand you're a newbie to the mpc so i'll put it for you this way so you can understand what i mean better.

Fruity Loops Comparison

in fruity loops you work with channels for sample sequencing = on the mpc those are called tracks.

in fruity loops you have patterns = on the mpc those are called sequences.

in fruity you arrange patterns in the playlist window = on the mpc that is called song mode.

in fruity you put in individual notes in specific places using piano roll = on the mpc that is called step edit.

a bit clearer for you now?

sorry main, I couldnt help myself cause when I hear fruity loops I cant help but think of a kid with a cracked copy of this I/M/O lame ass program thinkin he's gonna be the next dr.dre then he gets a mpc cause he see's one on tv or somethin, finds out he dont know where to start and sells it a week later...I was just fuggin with you anyways....I forgot that your new to the mpc and it can mos. def. be confusing at first...if I knew this site was here when I first got mine I woulda saved a lotta time figuring things out and I probably wouldnt want people takin shots at me for askin questions.

I think there should be a newbie section on this site though for kids just learnin so if you went in there youd expect these types of questions but you gotta understand the skill levels on here vary and even though it seems easy to some of us your probably cracken your head open tryin to figuer it out so I'm sorry dood...I will say this though, read that manual cause it brakes it down for you and would probably explain it better than we could anyways. PZ-
