Just tried to update from JJ OS 4.71 to 4.81

The machine went through the load of the OS as usual - up till the 'turn unit off and back on' bit.

So - I turn it off - then back on and ...............nothing!

Blank screen and nothing happens at all

Tried to load up a different OS from the Compact Flash card - (luckily I have saved all the back copies of the OS on my computer). Still nothing - completely blank screen everytime it says it has completed writing the OS to Flash

Any Ideas guys? - My MPC has just become an expensive doorstop!

Try the reset

Hold ERASE as you turn on the mpc

Yup - tried that too and still nothing.

Anyone else with any ideas??

put the os on root of your cf-card and boot it with (i think) record pushed, so it updates during startup.

or try pushing stop and turn the jog-wheel, so see if the contrast of the display is just messed up.

Tried that as well - no dice,

When I boot up 'the old fashioned way' (holding down the window key on startup) - It shows that the OS is indeed on the root of the CF card - and verifies that OS Xx is already loaded - It has found the new OS on the card - do you want to overwrite??

Hit Record (yes) and it erases the flash and writes the new OS - All good right?

No! - Nothing happens after that - Tried turning off and back on - Same blank screen - nothing at all there. The contrast is set right - as I can see all this stuff fine on the screen as it goes through the os update.

It's as if it gets so far into loading the os and then it can't boot properly.

I can hear the hard drive spin up to speed as I turn it on and nothing happens after that............. Weird weird weird,

Thanks for the replies though - any other ideas gratefully appreciated...

Right - Problem Solved!

Having messed about with the load/boot up process, i decided it must be something internal - The fact that the hardrive seemed to spin up to speed - then nothing happened was starting to ring alarm bells.

I opened it up and took the Harddrive out and then re-mounted it firmly - Turned it on and hey presto! - boots first time.

The Harddrive must have come loose somehow - and this lack of a proper connection must have stopped the boot process from running completely - No idea why this would be - but it works fine now..

Thought i'd post this incase anyone else has a similar problem with their machine

Cheers for the replies though guys - much appreciated!
