mike,
do you know this from experience or are you assuming that this might be the source of the problem?

it's an educated guess. i suggested the same to the last guy who had the problem and he never posted back with whether i was right or not, but he also never complained again, so i assume that it was the reason.

i don't have the 1000, i have the 2500 which has different sliders, but i tested the theory out by going into the mixer screen and gently tapping the q-link that controls the volume. sure enough, the level jumped down to match the position of the slider (i.e. if i had the slider set to 50%, the volume moved to 50%). this means that if the slider is loose and you hit a pad hard enough, you could be shaking the mpc just enough to move the slider and change the volume.

to test it, just move your q-link to 80% of the way and hit the pads. if the volume of the pad you're hitting moves to 80%, then move your q-link to 20% and try again. if the mixer level continues to change and match the position of the slider, then that's your problem. just get your sliders fixed and you'll be straight.

also, post back here and let me know if i was right.

thanks Mike,

I haven't had time to check this out yesterday..
but the day before that, I was working on my MPC, and the "volume change" happened again
I was so pissed so I hit the pads hard with the palm of my hands -not the best thing to do, I know- and turned off the MPC out of frustration..

Today, I was surprised to see that the "volume change" is not happening!
you might be right..
although I can't seem to reproduce the volume change with the tapping on the sliders.

I'm still investigating this!
will let you know if I find anything.
cheers.
