MPC = Snails

When loading and saving sounds my MPC goes pretty slow, even on files that arent very large. I was thinking about, and reading on upgrading the hard drive as far as space and whatnot, would that speed things up also? Id like to start doing some upgrades...

The hard drive won't speed things up. But you'll never have a problem as far as storage space is needed.

transferring stuff USB or loading and saving to your CF card?

With the compact flash... super slow.

I dont use a 128 card. I have a 512....

only works as a 128 regardless...hell it prolly dont even read the 512 at all

you missed the point alskee, nobody's mantioned the RAM here, the topic is the storage CF card. dont get confused.

regarding slow loads and save they are sure signs of an ageing CF card. I had bought one 512 Mb in 2003 when I first got the MPC, and I had to stop using it this summer when I noticed it was slowing down the saves and loads, and eventually produced corrupted/incomplete files.

Ahhh... good call. I should get a new card... I also should know the max card the 1000 will read but I dont... Isnt it a 1gig card?

I seen a dude use a 4 gig. I'd get a HD though bro. For just a lil extra cash, you get a lot more memory and never have to worry about where you cf card is (I've misplaced mines several times). Or go somewhere with you MP and forget to bring your card (done that a bunch of times too). Just gotta cop the HDM-10 kit ($25).

I read a little about that kit. And saw a list of compatible hard drives. Sounds pretty easy and fairly cheap... good investment too! So with a new hard drive would that wipe out for good those nasty "stock" samples? That'd be a nice bonus... Wheres the best place to order this kit?

try a reformat of the CF

No prob bro. The stock sounds will still be there cause they're located in the Internal memory, but you can get around those. Plus if you turn off Autolaod, you won't even notice them anymore.

I got mine this week and it was super easy to install. My daughter could do it! And I used an HD that wasn't confirmed to work by anyone (though it was a Fujitsu, a brand that was tested and approved by Akai).
So please, I urge you to cop that HD and enjoy the luxury of mass memory storage!
