Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Alright y'all I think I'm effed on this one... I bought an old drive on ebay for my MPC2000, it's a 9 gig CD-reader hard drive combo from IBM, and when I try to select it in Disk mode for any reason it justs "wait"s for ever. I tried to format it but couldn't get it to really respond. I then went online and read that old CD reader types tend to not work, but I thought I'd try here anyway. Anything I can do? Will taking the reader out improve anything, or is it even possible? Thanks yall

What are the SCSI IDs set to, and is the SCSI chain terminated?

Plus I think I remember hearing that the 2K won't be able to access the whole 9G unless you partition it.

you have to partition the drive into pieces.
SCSI id cannot I repeat CANNOT be #6 since the MP is reserved at 6.

I have my HD at 1, ZIPdrive at 5, CD DRIVE at 3.
IT sees all of them.

Eben,

I am dealing with the exact same problem. I bought the 9.1 gig SCSI hard drive from MPCStorageSolution on eBay. I tried to hook it up last night and it reads: waiting...... when I try and access the drive. I sent an email to the seller. I told him how I hooked it up and he replied back and said that I am doing everything right. The only thing is I told him that I am using 1.70 operating software and he told me to try the latest software version which is 1.72 I am now trying to find a computer with a floppy drive in it so I can download 1.72 off of the web. I am so frustrated because I want it to work and I am fearful that when I have exhausted all ideas the seller isn't going to peacefully refund my money. It looks like you posted this in July so if you got yours to work please respond or email me at [email protected] and tell me what you did. I will post again when I try the new o.s.

thanks

Following up: I was not able to resolve this problem and get the hard drive working on my MPC2000. I mailed it back to the seller who refunded my money. They said that they tested the unit and it works fine on their Classic and XL. My MPC2000 came fully expanded out of the box when I bought it. It has a sticker on the front of it which states: MPC2000 Studio Plus. I don't know if this made any difference. I will probably look into having a multi card reader installed in my MPC.

I don't think the Studio Plus factor had anything to do with it. You are going to spend a pretty penny getting an internal card reader installed in it. You can probably do an external card reader for like half the price of getting one installed in the 2k. It wouldn't cost as much if you had the 2kXL.
