Word ppl, just got my 2000xl mcd and that babe is just delicious! Except for the godamn data wheel...That thing doesn't wanna work in any way.

I've opened the whole unit and saw if any cables were not attached to the mainboard but eveyrthing seems fine. Also, everything else seems to be working just great.

I reckon it might be either a defected data wheel or an OS prob? What do you reckon MPC heads?

Sorry I can't say I have a solution. I will actually be getting my MCD in the mail today. But I wanted to say that problems like this are what drive me nuts about buying used gear. I've bought quite a few pieces of equipment 2nd hand and most of the time there is a minor issue that I gotta repair. On the positive side of things, it does teach ya more about your hardware if you fix it up yourself.

Good luck mate. I'll drop another line if I can churn up some info online. Will hit up google and see what I find.

Found a few more links. These are for odd behavior, not a completely non-functional wheel. So, may or may not apply. Anyway, I gotta head out now but I'll check back on ya later. ez.

its not the data wheel itself, because i have the same problem with my XL. its the data wheel encoder, which you can order at VSTService.com for 8 bucks. I have mine coming in the mail and i'll tell you how it works out

man, just gonna have to use the shift+slider and the number keys for now. do like my man above and contact vst and and get the part or see what you need to do to repair it

word ppl! thanks a lot for the replies! I've actually found out myself about the replacement encoders so I will order one to get that thing fixed cause ithat mpc actually came to me almost brand new and its a shame to go for a different one.

Anyway, as I have done my homework to the mpc-forums archives I've seen that it's quite common for the data wheel to break down so I don't get any frustrated. Shit happens, but the machine itself worths the effort, you all know that!

Yaw Perks, I thought about working on it for now without using the wheel, so I guess you right, I'll just go on with the shift and numpad. Do you think I'll face any hard limitations with that way? I don't think I'll try anything hard for now, just basic sequencing stuff.

how do you use it without the jog wheel? how would you scroll through your music on your memory cards and stuff like that?

For now I scroll through samples by using the cursor keys. I do have difficulties but still I can do some basic stuff. I will later on the Perks approach, as I can't stand havin it in front of me and not doing anything with it.
