I have been thinking about getting a mpc 2000xl mcd and it seems very good but I have some questions. One, can I take projects I have made on my mpc 1000 and put them in the mpc 2000xl? Two, is there some alternative operating system or an os upgrade that gives you the same function as the JJ OS' grid edit function?

According to this page at mpc-tutor:

On the downside, the following XL features are missing from the MPC 1000.

[...]

6. Programs made on the 1000 will NOT load into an MPC2000XL (sounds will)

two more questions.
If I get one I am going to either get the MCD version or get one used on ebay and put the kit in from mpcstuff. With either of these will I be able to use a 64 mb Panasonic SD card I have. I have read that SD cards are a little hard to get to work. And is there a feature through an OS update or something like that, that gives you input thru capability so you can record scratching live or something like that. The input thru isn't that big of a deal, but I am just trying to compare between the 2KXL and the 1000 with JJ.

i took an 128MB SD card from my digital camera, dropped some samples on it, popped it into the mcd and the samples were ready to use. i had general newb problem gettin at the sounds at first but once i knew how to do it, there was absolutely zero problems at all. thats my experience

as for comparing the two units, just hit this link man:
