I thought I'd post a thread with screenshots of my Pro Tools Setup and the MPC1000. I have my MPC Slaved to Pro Tools 7.3, so that I can control the MPC from PT 7.3 when tracking my beats.

Equip: Pro Tools 7.3
MPC 1000 with JJ OS 4.73
M-Audio USB Uno Midi to USB Adapter
Behringer Mixer
MBox 1

Routing: Midi In to Port 1 on the MPC.
USB Uno Connected to PC
Stereo Out to Chan 3/4 on mixer
Main Out from Mixer (Left & Right) to Line 1 & 2 on MBox 1

MPC Setup: Press "Mode" Pad9, Midi/Sync. Sync in: 1(Slave)
Mode: Midi Clock. Receive MMC off and Sync out: off.

MBox Setup: Source = Line for Chans 1 & 2.
Mix = Input to hear sound from MPC
**Turn Mix to Playback, of course, to hear recordings.

Mixer Setup: Simple, do not let MBox "Peak" light come on.

Pro Tools Setup:
Screen1:

Screen2: Create new instrument: MPC 1000 wont be there as an option, but just choose MPC 2000. If you want you can rename the instrument.

I hope this helps some of the newbies. I cant take full credit, my boi helped me out a bit. Comments/propz welcome.

you have any problems with sync?

i know there is often a small delay so I'll leave some blank bars but the size of this delay seems to vary with each individual track recording - sometimes its bang on point & other times its out a little by different degrees, makes re-aligning all the tracks a pain in the ass...

No because I record everything "dry". I do not record the effects such as reverb. I know some people using reason experience the delay or chopping off bars because they use the effects in reason then track to pro tools with the effects on. But no, I haven't experienced any sync problems so far.

i meant delay as in the time between the mpc playing & pro tools recording, missing just little of the start of each track, not a delay effect! I was tracking out dry too. Ill try using MTC instead of MMC maybe that'll make a difference.

No... not a delay, but SOMETIMES I have to fade in my kicks because there's a pop. This only seems to happen on the kicks or 808's, even if I have strings or horns hitting on the first. So I expand PT and set thr grid to slip and fade in a very small, un-noticable portion of the kick. Just enough to get rid of the click/pop.

But it doesn't happen all the time. Let me know if MTC works.

If you're experiencing a delay when tracking from the MPC to Pro Tools, adjust the buffer in Pro Tools. The smaller the buffer, the less delay. I have a dual core AMD, and track at 1 processor 99%, 128 or 256 samples.

Thanks a lot man, do you know how to get the MPC to control PT?

I got an MPC 2KXL, I started by connecting MPC midi out to digi003 midi in, then shift+9 on the MP and changing only the sync to screen (the one on the right) but from here I am lost.

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

I think only Pro Tools control surfaces or Control surfaces with HUI emulation will be able to control PT.

although some plug ins have MIDI learn capability - varies from Plug in to Plug in though
