Mpc - Cubase Sync

I want to use the mpc as master and cubase as slave. but im not quite sure if im supposed to use midi machine, midi time code or midi clock and i dont really know the difference between them.

can anyone tell me how to setup in the midi sync screen on the mpc and how to setup on the cubase sync screen to make this work properly.

Go to transport in cubase. Select sync setup. Select mtc under time code source. Under timecode settings, select what midi input port/channel your gonna use for mtc input. MTC destination is optional if you're slaving other devices/sequencers, it's more like a thru. Then on your MPC you need to have it set up to send mtc, on the designated midi out port going to cubase. That's it...

i set it up as u said. but when i press play on the mpc the sequencer on cubase jumps all the way to the end of the sequence..what am i doing wrong.

should i do any adjustments on midi machine or something.

what are the drop out frames supposed to be set to?
whats happining now is that the cubase sequence is starting on a completly different piont than the mpc..fukk

Well, the best advice I can give you would be to go to the HELP section of the program, look under syncronization, then look under "to timecode", there it will explain in detail about how to properly setup what you're trying to achieve.

First on the differences between MTC and Midi Clock, heres from stereoid.com:

1. Tempo-based, using Bars and Beats. This is called MIDI Clock or MIDI Sync, often with Song Position Pointers (aka SPP, to indicate the current position in the song).The MIDI Sync Master sends out regular clock messages that the slave device must follow. The frequency of the messages follows the tempo of the master clock.

2. Time-based, a.k.a. SMPTE or MIDI Time Code (MTC). The messages are time stamps that do not follow tempo at all. SMPTE stands for the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, which tells you where SMPTE is used; SMPTE code is actually an audio signal that devices like video recorders read and follow, and MTC is (basically) a method of sending the same information over MIDI for sequencers to use.

Cubase wont slave to midi clock afaik, MTC is the way to go. When editing the settings dont forget to activate MMC, too.

what are the drop out frames supposed to be set to? maybe the same as the lock frames??

what is the inhibit restart ms supposed to be set to on the midi machine setup in cubase? because right now when i push play on the mpc the transport point in cubase just goes mental and lands at a random point in the sequence loop.

there is some sort of comunication between the mpc and cubase, but its not starting to record from the beginning like it should.any ideas on what im doing wrong??

I have frames set to 30 on the mpc, left all settings in cubase and it works fine.

which version of cubase are you using???

it usually works better the other way round ...start the mpc from the computer
