Nym what color pads are you selling and rocking currently? The white or the black or what? =) I'm gonna pick up one of your kits soon and was curious about the color/finish/etc.

so whats the deal on the pad fix nym are u selling again? and also whats the deal with akais pad fix or...upgrade? lol

asking the same question, just went to akai retailler and he havent heard of anything from akai....

I am considering purchasing a 1k strictly because it's portability. Is this still an issue with the pads being poor quality?

Yeah, they will die one day. Sorry but it's the truth... it just happens at different times for everybody. You have 4 options as I see it:

1. You can fix them yourself as I did and others. But they will fail again.
2. You can buy new pad sensors for $8 from Akai. Same design though so the same thing will happen again at some point.
3. Antonym's pad fix
4. Wait for Akai's pad fix. Not sure what we're getting.

I decided to order one anyway, I figure if it wears out, I'll just repair it I just REALLY wanted a piece of hardware I could grab and take wherever and not have to drag my laptop with me.

as for the akai fix, is that something they are addressing? I think I read in this thread or another about sending the unit to AKAI for replacements?

Now that a fair bit of time has elapsed since this great thread first started, I wonder if anyone cares to report on how the various fixes have stood the test of time ?

After reading over the threads here, there is a decent range of options :

1. Foil 'Full level velocity'
2. Conductive silicone / keypad repair kit
2. Nym's early 'swap the carbon layer' idea
3. Rocism's single-array rebuild
4. Nym's full pad fix (currently not available? ..Nym?)
5. Pay Akai for doomed replacements
6. Wait for Akai to release the upgrade

Personally I'd be up for (4) Nym's fix,
Not keen on (5).
Wondering if (6) will ever happen?
(3) looks great, but a bit difficult for me to put together

I'm really hoping to get my pads up an running again with a cheap quick fix.

So has anyone done (1),(2) or (3) and had it work with long-medium term results.

I'm leaning towards the lighter touch of 'full level' foil but wondering how many months it might last.....

I think by the fact that all the people who tried the foil went to try on other methods suggests it sucks. There was also teh constant danger of fring the little blue/black junk pile.

I'm thinking about option (7) now. "Buttons"

Lose the pads, accept full level velocity and install some cool buttons.

There gotta millions of buttons out there.....Just need to find ones that have a nice feel, a robust design, and a quiet touch.

Like this stainless steel "vandal resistant switch" for example is tip of the iceberg. (pity the connections are too deep to install into the MPC)
