Most important thing for fat beats is to master the combination technique, which is nothing more that learning how to combine a really low kick with one with a lots of highs in it. By mastering the levels and parameters of each sample, you will end up with a super fat kick. Same goes for everything. But watch out, if you're not careful you will end up with overloading and shitty sounding beats.

money, time, energy, vinyl, inspiration...... Did I miss anything? Haha. For real though, the most important thing is probably picking the sample. Try to pick something that is simple yet interesting enough to keep the listeners attention. Edit the sample so its in 2, 4, or 8 bars. Then I usually chop the sample into zones (4, 8, or 16 usually works well). After that, you can program them onto pads in the order that works for you well to play them, rearrange them, and freak 'em. Decide on your melody, lay your drums down, and VOILA!!! Dope ass bangin' beats, just like you can see here

Hope this helps

Dedication and drive.

Cause if you're new to producing no matter what I bet your beats are going to sound like shit. IF you stick with it you'll get there in the end. Look at all the producers you respect - I bet you'd be surprised how long they worked at it in the background before they got to where theyre at now.

Listen alot to alot of different stuff, study other peoples styles - both hip hop and other. And use your imagination.
