Does anybody have 3K Groove Template's available for download?
I found some 2bar 3K Templates with all the swing settings (50% to 75%)
But every time i have mapped my own template from a 3K beat of a record
i notice the Roger Lynn feel is not just two bars. An 8bar loop seems to slip and slid it's timing the whole way!
So i was wondering if anyone had or could make some 8bar 3k Groove Templates?
Getting the note positions is easy, by Simply using a fast attacking drum sound (sharp hat etc) on all the quantize positions, played at full velocity. Then Record it and cut it up in ReCycle. Wa-La! 3K Groove Templates!

You got to be **** kidding me!
Not at all! I've had my MPC2000 from when they first released them. Then
i got the 2000xl. It's great for sketches and ideas. But i use Logic now because Groove Templates are so dope! And Logic is more sensitive (240 MIDI points per quarter beat) So it maid sense to me that if i wanted more accurate Groove Templates, Logic can do it. Along with ReCycle.
I still love my MPC, you can't beat it's compression and rock solid time.
But i would rather have a 3000, because Roger Lynn's feel is so dope!
So the nearest thing for me are the Templates.
The technology is there.

It's old technoligy now. I found myself a 3000 though, so no longer use them.

Here's a thought.
The energy that dudes put into chasing down "groove templates" how about putting that same energy into actually creating your own groove templates on the machine. Actually create your own, save that pgm/set or whatever u have to do so that next time you load up, you'll have it and maybe you can expand on it. Create your own, further your producer skillz.

A worthy thought too! And a great way to create your "own" feel. Do you have any tips? "Quantize off" obviously being key

I've never even used that word in my own vocabulary until this forum.
I've never looked for a used any groove templates from anybody anywhere, I just
create what I care to create and that's what it is
.
You can create with quantize off/on/hybrid it doesn't matter as long as you like the end result.
Don't box yourself in with thinking it HAS to be quantize off. It can be whatever you choose.

Honestly, as it is described in the manual and what you can actually see inside step edit mode, The amount of swing is measured as a percentage of time given to the first note in each pair of 1/16- or 1/8-notes. No special magic variation of this variation itself depending of the number of bar at all !!, if the swing settings applied is the same for all notes in the sequences, the position will be the same too !

Firstly, i think the previous reply may be referring to MIDI drum patterns, rather than Groove Templates. Creating drum patterns is what we all do with the MPC's. Groove Templates on the other hand, are maps of the precise points each drum sound is struck. It enables you to map the grooves of a drummer (to a point) Thus creating a Groove Template of a drummers feel. There not drum patterns; Kick there, snare there etc. There just timing points that enable us to break out of the normal quantization of a programed beat. Alternatively we can play without quantization- creating our own Groove Templates.
Im just imparting information. Rather than lecturing people about how to do this and that. This sight in notorious for people lecturing other people. Lets just get on and share information.
Regarding the timing drift; It's something the 3000 (maybe the others too) seem to do when playing around with the settings in MIDI Clock in your host app. You can make it drift a little. So if you have a longer loop it will drift more. Play around with the way the host app sends it's time code.

You could also slave your MPC 3k to logic using the groove templates there but to me the whole reason for using an MPC is to take some computer out of the process...
