bit of a prob with reason and mpd24

Yo check i just got a mpd 24 and i got it installed, hooked up to reason 3.04 and I have a question. If i wanna play lets say subtractor or nnxt how do assign a certain note to a certain pad? I checked the manual.

Did you read the Edit mode section of the manual? Did you load up the UniQuest editing software that comes with it? Loading up uniquest will help you begin to see how the numbers on the MPD display and keyboard notes relate to each other. Doing these two things may help u get some understanding about how the MPD communicates wit ya software. If it takes reading this section of the manual more than once itz cool, whatever it takes to get it. If this don't work for you holla back.

Yo flow4JC, check on the Reason Options Tab the Remote Override mode. When you hit that, you can assign everything from reason to your MPD manually. Now, to get working simultaneously on various different modules is kinda of difficult to say. See, Reason doesn't support directly the MPD24 because its older and that creates quite a few problems. First off, you cannot get MMC controls, and you will frequently see faders and knobs to move on the Reason without hitting anything on the MPD. That's the true story with these two. Still, you can use it and make your life way much easier, especially with the Dr Rex module.

Unfortunatelly, Reason doen't directly recognice MMC controls, which are the buttons you've mentioned. I've read somewhere about a method to override that and use them, but it was too tricky and I couldn't waste my time trying to do it.

I think you can use the mpk keyboard's mmc controls to control reason

Whatz good cuz? I use the MPD and the transport controls work fine once I installed the Reason Remote installer on Akai's official website. I don't even use my mouse to control start, stop, rec, and << >>. The Installer helps the MPD recognize these communications.

Truth is flowj4c i didnt reply cuz i really dont have the mpd yet but i needed to do research before i get it... So can you tell me how to hook up the mpd to control key notes in nnxt the sampler in reason.

Ahh thanks. I asked my friend who also have MPD 24 about that keys and patch from Akai website and he told me this patch do nothing with it and he also cannot assign it to those buttons. I will try it!

Hikkimori can you assign a note like c4 in nnxt (reason) to a drum pad? If so how? Oh and for the mmc controls to work i think you need reason 3.04 not 3.0 Hikki hikki mori hikkimori hikkimori just had to say that

Yes u must have Reason 3.04. Some things I assume that I probably shouldn't i guess. As far as programing the key notes into the pads.

press edit mode on mpd24 and hit a pad you should see the pad number you hit at the top of the screen just under the pad number it should say NOTE (this is the default of the pads) Next hit enter (the value change knob near the screen. Next just dial in the appropriate number 0 through 127.

for example.

#0 = C0 on the keyboard
#1 = C#0
#2= D0
etc etc....

all the way to 127 which = G10 on the keyboard.

You have got Reason preset in the MPD memory, so it's no-brainer. But if you screw something like my pal did, and ish happends to presets - you must do it manually, like flow4JC describe above. I did that once but on FPC in FL STUDIO, simple task but extremly boring.

If you don't want to have to program it in by hand every time then just save this preset in the MPD memory after you create it. What I did was use the uniquest software that come with the MPD to make presets for all the Major and Minor scales on the keyboard and just saved them into the MPD memory along with presets for redrum and other things in Reason. The MPD can hold a total of 30 presets so you got a lot of room to work with.
