trouble sending midi msg's through midi outputs

whattup mpc community,

after using the "search", "FAQ", and skimming through all recent posts with no luck , i'll get to the point...

i have my jv1080 hooked up to midi C (port 3) and the 60 will not trigger it. it will trigger other modules on midi A,B, and D. before i assume the ports dead, is there a mode, midi port filter, switch i'm not checking? went through all jv1080 possibilities with the roland tech and it triggers when changed to other midi ports. thanks in advance.

oh and even though i don't think this makes the difference in this situation but i'm using the mpc60 mkI w/ OS 3.10

here's something else i'm experiencing. now that i have loaded a program into my mpc60 when changing midi channels 1-16, or midi outs
A-D to trigger my modules, the 60 triggers it's internal sounds too on all midi outs regardless. my 4k seems to separate them no problem. i thought it would also be a general basic midi defalt on the 60.

i also understand that the 60 is not the 4k but i believe it helps illustrate the point i'm making.

how bout it. anyone? i've done the research i'd expect any newbie to try first so come on. please help me out.

This behaviour has been present on MPC60 and MPC3000 machines since day one from what i can remember.

If a track is set to DRUM or MIDI and LOCAL is On... and you press a drum pad; then regardless of the MIDI port you're routed to ... you will hear ... a DRUM ( or what ever sample is assigned from the MPC's sound generator ) and also, what ever device is being accessed over MIDI via the PORT/CHAN settings in the MAIN SCREEN.

If the track is set to MIDI then incoming MIDI events received at the MIDI IN ports will be routed over MIDI to the connected device via the track PORT/CHAN settings on the MAIN SCREEN. You will not hear a DRUM in this instance.

The original intention of this was that DRUM events for DRUM TRACKS would be entered by the PADS and MIDI events for MIDI tracks would be entered via the MIDI ports.

NOTE REPEAT functions are similarly handled where routing and triggering is concerned.

i'm aware of the "drum", "midi A-D (1-16)" options and the function setting of the "local" control. i've tried setting the local off as i already have the local off on my external keyboard controller (korg X5), in doing so the mp stops triggering its own sounds and only the selected modules play and that's great. but then now when i go to record a performance on a trk using "drum" part, i don't get any sound from my mpc60 because of the local setting turned off.

are you saying that no matter what i do, that the 60 will always trigger itself and the external midi device on "midi" over "drum" parts? if that's the case which i don't believe so then it doesn't make sense for roger linn to have put in the four midi outs if you're just trying to expand your synth voices. please tell me this is not so. i have a work around it method but it sucks that i'm not able to hear the "count in" metronome click.

i finally got it to work out. had to read and read and reread the manual until it finally dawned on me (kinda like those 3D portraits that you stare into for a few minutes then the hidden image appears).

for those of you passing through and looking for the same answers, here's what i was not doing and had totally left out:

on the main screen (which gmix had mention before) down to the middle right, there's the "type" section that only gives you the "drum" or "midi" option. i never bothered changing that only the midi ch and midi out (A-D). that was it.
