Organizing Record collection

Im tryin to organize my record collection by genre. Does anyone know a site that would let me know the genre of the album? thanks

what good is that system if you don't understand it? Alphabetical according to first name is the only way i understand... (but don't have the energy to do)

Listen to your stuff and decide for yourself. Don't even have to be genres. Just organise in a system you remember

Sorry s94, I agree with everybody else. Put the damn thing on the plate and decide where to put it so that you can find it if you want to play it.

Ive switched up my ways of organizing many times probably like a lot of other Dj's and Record Collectors. However, latley ive organized it into the following.

Sample records and my hip-hop djing records.

Then in the sampling records i have categories that i never follow like Jazz and Funk & Rock & Roll and Soundtracks. But i never refer to the sections when i think of sampling something. I usually just pick randomly from a stack and see what its got.

but yeah ...listen to your records and if you know enough about music you will know and be able to pick a genre for it. Or you could just put it in a section thAT IS "aLREADY SAMPLED rECORDS" but you might not get everything get the first round. It's just spending time and learning to do your way what you love

I don't know its a possibility... but if so he doesnt know (or realize)what hes missing.

Wow..the inner beast just came out of you guys. haha

Haven't you guys ever came across records that were so eclectic or weird that you weren't sure what genre or sub-genre a record was? If you were really interested in that type of thing and just getting into it I think you would want somewhere were you can look things up and learn more.

I dunno, but I personally don't need to go and organize my records. I got 2 distinctions that's it. Records I listen to but won't sample are in one place, and everything else is in another and those are pretty much what I would sample.

I just keep it simple... rock, jazz, musicals, Club (House, acid, miami bass, freestyle, techno), Drum n Bass, Disco, Soul, reggae, Hip Hop and... all others!
