Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Just wondering what you guys do when you power on your 500. Do you have a custom autoload? Just recently I made an autoload program that brings up the following:

Bank A
pad 10 = OPEN | pad 11 = OPEN| pad 12 = OPEN
pad 7 = OPEN | pad 8 = OPEN| pad 9 = OPEN
pad 4 = OPEN | pad 5 = OPEN | pad 6 = OPEN
pad 1 = kick | pad 2 = snare| pad 3 = hat

Bank B
pad 10 = kick | pad 11 = snare| pad 12 = hat
pad 7 = kick | pad 8 = snare| pad 9 = hat
pad 4 = kick | pad 5 = snare| pad 6 = hat
pad 1 = kick | pad 2 = snare| pad 3 = hat

Bank C
pad 10 = kick | pad 11 = snare| pad 12 = hat
pad 7 = kick | pad 8 = snare| pad 9 = hat
pad 4 = kick | pad 5 = snare| pad 6 = hat
pad 1 = kick | pad 2 = snare| pad 3 = hat

Bank D
pad 10 = Bass | pad 11 = Bass| pad 12 = Bass
pad 7 = Bass | pad 8 = Bass| pad 9 = Bass
pad 4 = Bass | pad 5 = Bass| pad 6 = Bass
pad 1 = Bass | pad 2 = Bass| pad 3 = Bass

I leave the first banks half open for sampling and then I have a decent start up with different drums assigned to the rest.

I have my generic bass sound on the last programs to 12 notes, not levels.

This has made more productive. I used to get stuck on loading samples all the time, so far this works pretty well.

I was thinking of chopping and loading all my most used breaks in also.

THAT my friend is a good idea....i might impliment something like that to my stuff, except have my layered drums on bank B ready to use, and the single samples on bank C.

good stuff, not many people utilize the autoload function so well.

i do this;

Bank A
pad 10 = tom | pad 11 = tom | pad 12 = tom
pad 7 = tom | pad 8 = ride | pad 9 = crash
pad 4 = kick | pad 5 = snare | pad 6 = hat
pad 1 = kick | pad 2 = snare| pad 3 = hat

Bank B
pad 10 = agoga | pad 11 = chimes | pad 12 = maracas
pad 7 = claves | pad 8 = shaker1 | pad 9 = shaker2
pad 4 = Hi bongos | pad 5 = Mid bongos | pad 6 = Low bongos
pad 1 = Hi conga | pad 2 = Low conga | pad 3 = deep tom

Bank C
empty for samples

Bank D
empty for bass to load

actually though, im thinking to make bank D with some bass sounds to hav ready for 12levels right from the beginning.

big point too, if u hav the ram expanded to 128mb, for the autoload, u can load up sounds that arent used in the pad banks. so they are sounds unassigned to pads, so they are only in the ram memory. -so wut i do is, wen i use the snares, if i dont like the snare in the song (pad A2), i edit the program sample assign, searching different snares sound through all memory. and etc. and i hav over 200 kicks/snares/percussion loaded in the memory.

autoload is crucial to the workflow

That is so neat!
