A question before I order a MPC500

Hi,
Some years ago I sold my MPC2000XL and MPC4000 to get some more hardware synthesizers, but I've started to miss the mpc way of making beats and I'm thinking of getting a MPC500. But there are one (for me) big issue I can't find any information about.
Can you sample while the sequencer is running?
The internal resampling looks nice, but I would like to resample thru some external effects as well.
Maybe getting the new tiny kaoss pad thingy and a couple of stomp boxes to have some battery operated fun when I'm out travelling.

yes it's possible to sample wile the sequencer is running.

but I don't think it's possible to run the sound outside the mpc thru a external effect and back.

the sample capabilities are limited to only sampling 1: sampleing the incoming source( also possible to have the seq monitored at the same time ). 2: sampleing/resampling the internal signal inside the mpc500.

Dude, get an SP404. Battery powered, very quick resampling and a TON of effects.

It would be a battery powered dream. You could take one single sound and make a whole track out of it easy with that thing.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at the sp-404, but I'm very tempted by the MPC500 since I've been using different MPC before. I'm also missing a sampler in my regular home studio at the moment, so the MPC might be used both for traveling an making some beats while laying on the couch watching TV and in the studio.

yeah you can sample while the sequencer is running

just set the recording input to REC IN - this will then sample whatever signal is coming into the MPC

So have your output going through your effects and then back in through your line in

You know I thought you could resample using the internal effects on the MPC500.. maybe not.. gotta check.

6581, I'm an ex MPC4000 owner aswell. I'm sure you'll enjoy this thing. Small screen and all, but once you know your way around it, it becomes second nature. I love the sound of it too. Actually prefer it to the MPC4000 to be honest, even though it's a bit dirtier.

What I meant was to get an sp-404 to compliment the mpc500. The SP404 is no MPC substitute by any means.

This is what I wanted to hear. Looks like Akai will get some of my money again. I hope I this machine will give me back som of the inspiration of the MPC200XL, the MPC4000 was a bit to much like Cubase in a box for my taste.


btw: Anyone know some netshops with any good deals on the MPC500(include memory expansion, CF card, sample cds. etc....) that ship to Europe?

My advice(from experience) to you is buy the actual Akai CF Card, although 128 is small this will keep you focused to one song. & I have been using it I have not encountered any problems(yet) Also dont upgrade the OS. Keep version 1.0 (I have 1.10) unless you want to encounter the bugs that are mentioned in the front page of this forum Oh yeah dont try comparing it to other boxes out there. This thing can do enough, just use a computer for tracking and effects & you will be fine.

I've just ordered a MPC500, memory expansion, Kaoss pad mini and a EHX Metal muff distortion stomp box. Looking forward to start making some glitchy Lo-Fi beats MPC style again.
