I was trying to ask cats in the 2000 Forum what is the deal and preference is with the 2000 models - Then these cats just jumped me.
My question was making your own improvisions to you MPC Vs. Professional Techs making warrented improvisions.
I know that there are things that Me, Myself, can occupy, But I was fixed on this one thread where this cat basically - Made the improvisions to his 1000 model.
He wanted to tilt the LCD screen, But I know that this was the rough draft of his opperation. Wires exposed, screen leaning and hanging. Besides the gapping hole underneath his LCD screen. I had to ask -- WHY ?
As if the MPC was not doing it's Job good enough - Or was it that you wanted to have the only 1000 Model that has the tilting LCD screen.
I asked if it was wise to do so. They fired away at me. Called me names and ish.
Not that I didn't understand, I was basically amused and taken by the things people can do to thier units. I have the 60ii Model. My screen came tilted, There is really nothing I can do to the unit besides add a Fat Beat Button. Or Change the color. Or Tweek the guts in my Unit..
But those are things that I will have to wait on, being that I am New to this Forum. I didn't want to start an arguement. These cats seem to be under the belief that I was taking internet stabs at their creative powers.
NO. That wasn't the case.
The question is.
Is it better to make the improvisions yourself in some cases - Or getting it done the right way, even if you know what you're doing ?
I'm a Safeway Kid. I'll pay sometimes to get the work done.
But I'm not against getting inside the internal schematics of my unit.
What do you guys think. ?.

Sometimes modding mpc's is an excuse to not make music with it.. And it always devalues the unit. I say put some stickers on it or somethin non permanent unless it is in need of a paint job or modification due to the fact it is fuct up in some way. Tilting screens and whatnot .. just put a freaking book behind the unit and it will tilt ...

dont take it personal

dudes love to defend their $1000 purchases to death

just like hardcore fruity users

i love every mpc i think they all have advantages in the hands of capable "musicians", but the real reason we use em is because of workflow and the sequencer....

i think its rediculous to "tilt" your lcd like that? if you live in a dusty aread, an overheated board from dust is in your future...

any modification really needed, not talking about card drives or operating systems, im talking cosmetic upgrades, is only when a part on your mpc is broken or is not functioning correctly...

I think the 1k mod came out pretty bad.The 2k classic mod came out better, but sill I wouldn't do that to my 2000 classic. If they moded it better maybe it would have looked better, but the flat 2k screen doesn't bother me.

I had a 1ooo
but personally I'd much rather get a tilted mobile rack for it for less than a hun
than do a custom job to it like that and risk screwing it up
but to each his own I guess

I agree with all of you. I thank you all for answering sincerly and experienced minded. I was just checking out the other forums to get their aspects on the different MP's and why they fell in love with thier units.
I will search no further - Because me and My 60ii are going to tie the knot.

As soon as I can save up for a cake and reception. But other than the cake, I should be able to get the damn thing poppin.

Qwik question. ?
The 60 mods sample in 12-bit correct.
Or is it that they sample at 16-bit, but store the data at 12.
I know I'm confusing myself, but just wanted to make sure that I am not misinforming myself at this point.
Knowledge is the key here. If I'm correct then that would explain why I believe that the older models pack a better sound in their mosaic message.

Just curious. I can read, My Manual says that it samples at 16-bit, but stores data 12-bit non-linear.
In english that means to me that the 60 samples at 16-bit. But compresses the data at 12-bit for more data storage.
The non-linear means that the sound can be manipulated at any point and pasted or cut at any point.
Or do I have the entire thing jacked up. ?.

i think thats right. they have a better sound because of the a/d / d/a convertors. im far from a expert but im pretty sure those or one of those are the reason why the earlier MPCs sound alive, and the others dont. (just when you sample in, you can always get the ohter mpcs to sound alive, but with a lot of work having to be done

All MP's have A/D and D/A converters. That's how it's picking up the sound.
All A/D means is Analog and Digital. So it can convert any formatted sound.
My qwestion is now answered.
The 60 does sample in 12-bit. When it is sampled, it is recieved at 16 bit.
But on play back, and generation it is restored at 12 bit.
So all in all it picks up all of the sounds at 16 bit for better quality.
But when restored- it's on to 12. The wave length on a 16-bit format means that at each travalent trajectory, Sound is picked up at closer intervals. 12 -bit is more spread out and misses more higher frequencies.
Low frequencies are easier to place because they are so bold and extract more area of recording.
The 60 records at 16 bit - to capture all the highs and lows at an ok rate. The higher the bit, the more details of the sound are captured. But when it converts back to 12 bit- for storage, the highs still being captured at 16 bit, really don't lose much end. But the lower sounds are enhanced because of the 12 bit rate.
Thus why on the 60. The Highs have an almost bass feel to them. Especially live samples. So the 60 actually does both. 16 bit and 12.
Pretty cool uh.
Found that out researching in music class yesterday. Thanks Mr. Mann.
Gotcha.

That's the reason why Primo does'nt have to turn his drums up loud to be felt
and they have a lot of texture and depth to them

By IDK Fri Aug 31, 2007 12:00 pm
are you sure primo use the mpc60 for his drums ? not sure about that, i think he sample all in his two s950 and sequence with the mpc...

maybe it's wrong..

How should I say this.
The S9' has the same data format as the 60 mods. No differ.
For drums it is way easier to place on the 60. Not meaning that the S950 is obselete when it comes to drums. Nor am I saying that he hasn't done that time and time again ( Used the S9' for Drums to the 60 for seq.) But. Who actually knows but Primo. That's why he's Primere. What I can say, is that
for drumming out your own programmed drums. If using the S9' as master on the drums, They pack the same format. Nothing is differ about the 60 and the S950. Both think and Speak alike.
