What music can you make on an MPC?

Stupid question i know but i am a complete beginner. Been buying vinyl for years, want to experiment with making music but don't just want to make hip hop. What other music can you make with the MPCs? and with what machines?

You can make any type of music with anything, including the MPC....You can make music with a plastic cup and pencils if you want!!!!

Yup....Think of an MPC as a piece of paper....You can draw on it, you can write a story, you can throw it around (please don't throw any MPCs tho, thats just dumb)....The MPC is nothing but a blank canvas....Grab your paint brush and create!!!!

Oh Ofcourse u can make ANY music on an mpc especailly like drum & bass and jungle

In response to Streetwalker...I was wonderin the same thing....I wanted to know if this machine is capible of makin some Jungle and some Drum n Bass on it...I still have yet to actually use my machine, for im still readin the tutorial book that I bought off of this site, and it is very in depth too...I want to make some original beats for some djs to spin and I want to make that "wobble" sound that is in so much Jungle music today...It is possible to make anything on the MPC or so Ive been told so go for the sky on that one Homie...

'cmon people....It's all about the player, not the instrument. Listen to Bella Fleck play jazz on a banjo and you will realize that....
I've been contracted to make everything from "Big Band" to country to orchestral music. Of course (and Rick will appreciate this) No one ever asked me what I would make it on.......I use the MPC on everything I do though...sometimes just for the click but that's rare...usually at least pads keys etc..and sometimes 90+ percent of the tune......


The only music that comes out of any instrument is what you put in it.....

I suggest if you don`t have someone to watch and learn from first as djs pick up your favorite tune and listen to the sounds and arrangements as djs you more than likely have these skills already.

Key point the mpc is software and a box also. Just you have the extras mainly your DAW as Digital multracker and mixer. Production is an extendion of DJing and Live Remixing.

at the risk of sounding like an as shole, FCUK MAN. do some research. the mpc is a blank template that can make slow tracks, at 40bpm and can go as fast as something like 200bpm, and thats just the basics.

i agree with all...the mpc only makes what you want it to make and only processes what you put into it...also keep this in mind...i dont know if its factual but...most of these MPC's and drum machines or what have you where never intended to be used to make hip hop...they where created for live sets and techno and drum n bass genres anyway...but thats the evolution and adaptation of hip hop,...if it can make a sound use it....and the golden rule...THERE ARE NO RULES TO THIS SHII....do what you do
