Broken mpc2000 Help!

I owned a 1k for the past 3 years, but had to sell it recently to pay the rent. Now that i have the money again, i decided to grab a used 2k off of ebay.

I recently purchased a 2000 for a good price from someone on ebay. Everything went great, prompt shipping and the unit looked fine.

However, when i plugged it in, there are a number of lines across the screen which make it impossible to read anything. ALso, all of the led lights above the buttons remain on all the time, and nothing i press seems to change anything.

It looks like there is one line of text on the screen, although i cant read it. Does this sound like an LCD issue? or something more complex? Maybe multiple issues? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The seller has agreed to send me my money back but my ideal outcome would be to repair the machine somehow, so i thought id ask you guys what you thought.

Depending on how much you paid for it, I would get my money back! Replacement lcd screen is not a cheap fix($145+ship). Regarding the led lights, I don't know. If it was me I would get my money back!!!!

open it up and look for the ribbon coming from the screen area to the board. mine was loose and did the samme thing. if that doesnt workt hen send back and try again fam. my 2 cents

good tip. would definitely try that first.

Thanks for all the responses. The reason that i am so interested in repairing it is because the seller has already refunded my money, and has said that if i can find a way to repair the machine then i can keep it.

so essentially, if i have to replace the display, i will be getting a full mpc for the price of a replacement display. I have checked the cable inside and it is seated snugly. in fact everything inside looks pretty good, there are no visible problems, as far as i can tell.

anyway, if anyone has any further ideas id love to hear em, otherwise thanks for your help!

The screen is just jacked up if there are lines.
As far as the LIGHTS being on, you must insert the OS disk.
It is looking for the OS 1.72 if all of the lights are on.

My bad I thought he had an xl.Yeah exactly what /\ said you need to put the 1.72 disk each time you start up the 2k classic.

I have recently purchased a replacement LCD screen but am having trouble finding someone to install it without paying $125. Has anyone done it themself and have some tips??
