First, I try to set my MPC to 96K and it barfs up a bunch of noise.

I did a full format of the HD under 1.71 and I still get crashes during sample transfers.

*sigh*

(Blue Haze will be telling me to move along momentarily, haha.)

No, I see others working it out just like you can you are a big boy don`t cry to me about it.

On the real I`m glad those with problems can work it out. As for me my 4k is fine maybe it`s the made in Japan thing. Anyways I got other techniques and problems to work on way beyond this.

Keep your head up and don`t give up so easy illmatic.

i own a 2500, never used a 4000 but im planning on getting one. with my 2500 i can connect it directly to my computer via usb and transfer files back and forth like nothin. are you to tell me that you can only do this on a 4000 with the purchase of this aksys program that apparently is messing up? please tell me it isnt so.

the other great thing about my 2500 is that i could also use that little card it came with and stick it right into my computer for file transfers or whatever. i wont really miss that too much but if the usb file transfer is as complicated as it sounds i might stick with what i got.

Aksys is free download the manual before purchase and check it out. Some had problems with it and others didn`t it is up to you. If you are unsure or afraid then stick with what you got. he, he,he

It is just gear. Follow the crowd or do you?

dont exaggerate. Aksys is a decent program. It only crashes on me when lots and lots of files or being transferred at once. Many gigabytes at once, I mean. Only downside I see is that its slow because the USB 1.1 connection.. only transfers 12 megabits per second (usb 2.0 = 480 mbps)
Its a little strange the mac users have a more user friendly and prettier Aksys interface than the pc users. Alphabetic views and different folder views pc users dont have. Transferring on a mac seems faster too

to answer measure11's question: yes that is the case. You HAVE to use aksys to transfer files from and to the computer. And JazznFunkPack, I agree usb1.1 is insane but the mpc500, 1000 and 2500 also only have usb 1.1.

And about exaggerating, theres been alot of problems with aksys for alot of people, now since I reformatted the hd with os 1.71 it works 98% perfect (a few crashes bu I can live with them) but before this aksys could crash just transferring a 20 mb file, and it did it probably 30% of the time.

Like before everyone`s not the same some have problems and others don`t. If one has any fear or hesitation and really cannot decide for themselves you can see the problems ones that had it for yrs had, have and probably will have more in the future. Stick to what works for you. You have to do for you.

Man over machine or machine over man. It is just a tool. Maybe test it out first before buying it first.

P.S. You can alsottransfer small files by Zip disks, usb sticks, or and large files by CDRW CD for that matter you don`t have to depend on Aksys. It`s up to you.

So I copt a laptop PC figuring akai sys wud work better on it than my freakn mac, now it loses sync with the MPC 4K as though the usb connection is completely lost (occurs ever now and then sometimes when I'm in the sampling mode 'record', then it crashes....hangs what ever the fuk u want to call it, but when I try to reload it, it gives me the error 'only once instance of Akai sys can be running at once', which basically means I have to go look for the process and kill it. Aksi sys suck ass. And I'm about to lose my marbles with this bullshit. Aswell when it does this Akai sys come back to the front thinking I got a z8.

That`s too bad. Leave Aksys alone before you go crazy. Just use the memory sticks or cds for transfers.

It works for some and not for others. You have issues with your connections. I`m working with a Mac G4 and its all good. I don`t know what other to say but do what works for you.

P.S. call your local rep and ask for answers. Anytime I had any problems especially on my 4k I call my rep or the store I bought it from. In Yokohama at least they call you back, don`t know about your area though.

Good luck.

RealisticallyI cant leave it alone I need it, I have a big setup and it saves alot of time, if I have to go reach into the vaults and pull out the zip or jazz disks I think I will end up in a mental instituation by weeks end. Aswell as the fact that I over expanded my studio to the point of it being overwelming and now I dont start a beat with anything except the mpc, no cubase, no reason, no battery no sp1200 nuthin but the 4k, I want to do pre prod not tek support. I bought my 4K at the same place I bought my mpc 2K in 96 at rock n soul in manhattan. I'm based in Montreal, Canada. Hope AKai Canada tek support isnt like Steinberg Canada. I guess I will try formatting the drive. And will update the mobo drivers now.

Question is there a way to tell which version my HD was formated with? Beucase if I remember correctly I think it came with ver 1.71.

No I dont think there is. The problems you describe is what I experienced ALOT before reformatting my hd in the 4000 (full format on os 1.71). The z8 thing happened alot to me too. Infact it still happens on occasions but now its about only 1% as much compared to before.

If I were you I'd do the reformat, the place you bought your mpc from couldve just put in a pc preformatted hd as they probably have no clue about this problem.

The problem may be the PC and not AK.SYS.....I regularly back up large files and have never experienced a problem. With any project, song, beat, etc., I save the entire memory to a single folder. Even though this can eat up HD space, the trade off is the ability to load a folder, and have your mix come up with a minimum of effort. Weekly I take any folders I have been in, and drop them into a folder via AK.SYS and just walk away...no crashes yet. Every few months, I take the whole "master folder" and drop it. Same results. I'm using 1.71 into a PC running XP pro. Not sure if it matters but I make sure my PC is optimized for audio recording. I've disabled all non-essential programs that run in the "background". If you've got an adware checker or anti -virus, or anything that "scans" for something every few minutes, perhaps that's causing problems....

I tried in on my mini laptop and was sort of the same issues. But thanks for the input. Im definately aware that other programs can interfere. Any programs u experienced that does interfere?

By fader-pro Thu Aug 30, 2007 5:58 pm
Many internet, network, and anti virus programs periodically check for updates etc. I would think any of them could be a culprit depending on your configuration. Hit CTRL/ALT/DEL and click on "task manager" to see what is running in the background. Also auto recognition for CD drives etc could potentially cause a problem. Another place to look might be the USB drivers....do you have the latest? If thats no good, can you find an earlier version? Get your music machine off the web if you can....

AK.SYS will crash if you're using a USB hub. Plug the MPC directly into a USB port. If you're using the front PC port and have problems, try the port on the back of the machine......

That's all I can think of....
