so i was wondering, about how long are your samples on average before you chop them up and all that ruckuss?

it seems like mine are WAY too long sometimes, like up to 3 minutes, and that ish aint cool cause how am i supposed to make a 3 minute song out of a 3 minute sample theres way too much information in that sample, i guess i need to learn how to learn that less is more stuff lol.

lol WOW 3 minutes???

Are you sampling the whole damn song?? that could be your problem..and yes if your samples are all 3 minutes long, you are on the right path of less is more but @ 3 minutes were talking ALOT LESS....

yeah, well, most of my samples are regular length (like 3 to ten seconds) but the last one i took it just kept going and going like the energizer bunny lol. i was trying to chop it up, and it was taking me a couple days! then i finally gave up becuase the sample was too big, i guess ill just have to find a part of it and focus on that.

i was just wondering how long everyone elses was and if you've ever run into that problem.

sometimes when im sampling from the tv ill record from one commercial to the next as a big chunk and then chop it up later on the pc. always a race to beat the commercial break in a save and purge race.

Mine are just really short like 4 seconds shots which I try chop (!) and play with. And I just realize after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPWGa0MyZpA maybe I'm messing with wrong stuff, too complicated (I mean too short) to start with for myself? They just add drums, that's no-brainer. I know it's maybe not so easy to find perfect sample long like that (maybe I should sell all my records and dig harder for stuff like that?), but..

What ya think?

I sample 20sec or less. Usually around 10 to 15sec.I usually just sample 4bar parts and copy/trim chop in the mpc.

about 9 sec. If there are a lot of parts in one song that i want I either record them separately or record the whole song and Extract the parts I want. THen I chop each part of the song into smaller pieces. Then its time for the pads!
