where do i look for updated info on the Akai pad fix?
cant find anything through google

Well, all I know is that the 2000XL pads are the best pads I ever felt! The 2500 pads are wack to me too (as far as how they feel, not they're durability). I have felt the pads of the 60 II, 2000 XL, 1000, 2500, and 500 and the best feeling pads are the 2000XL, 2nd are the 500 so if either Nym or Akai make pads that feel like that than I'm down and anyone else who have felt all the pads I've named feels that same I'm sure. The 2000XL pads are nice and soft and really responsive. Akai should aim for that feel.

From what I've felt of the pads, yeah the 500 I hold second. If you don't agree that's fine. But my main point is that the 2000XL are the best feeling pads and Akai should go after a pad that feels and responds like that.

Out of the pads Ive felt Im with you on your first choice. I used to have a 2000xl and the pads are the shit! The whole box is a pleasure to work with and I agree that Akai should have never stepped away from that pad design. I just dont care for the 500 pads at all.

I want new pads too!!! I just sold my MPC1000 because the pads went dead, and I had replaced it with the 2500 anyway...

PLEASE make new pads for the 1000.

And while your at it, please improve the MPC2500 pads

I feel you on that. Yeah, make them 2500 pads better too cause those things are super hard and barely have any give. I think the 1000 pads feel better than those (those not nearly as durable).
Come on Akai, lets make some consistant good product here. When you find a formula that works you guys need to stick with it. Make all the pads better!

I think they have found a formula that works, and so far are sticking with it, its called making cheaper and cheaper products for they're own gain.

well what sucks is that I was seriously interested in getting a 1000

but the tons of threads and complaints about the pads have pretty much convinced me not to waste my time.

Initially I thought the msgs were all older and it was something that Akai resolved with a new batch of units...

hmmmm....

sure, they're no 2xl but you can figure out how to get a natural sound from the 1k. if you have a 1k then learn how to work the pads of a 1k. it's not like it produces worse music if the pads aren't as versatile. i have a serious love affair with my 1k, imo you can't beat the upgrades it offers over the dinosaur machines. come onnnn

well I went to the local GC and tested out the pads. I thought they were pretty good so I ordered one with the hd mounting kit.

It came yesterday and I'm gonna dive into it over the weekend. Pretty excited about getting some hardware integrated with my PC.

Other than RAM and HD, any other MUST haves for it? the JJ/OS? CF CARD?

the 1k is sick, you won't be disappointed. jj os, ram, hd, and maybe like a 1gb cf card is all you'll need. then just read the manual for sure. it helped me to use the stock sounds to experiment with how it all works. worry about the epic samples later haha.

Also if you buy the mpc 1000 ebook you can learn some things that you might not have figured out on your own. It also comes with sounds and you can learn how to use all the filters and everything else. Helped me ALOT.
