This sounds exactly like what I was experiencing with a faulty RAM module, got it out of an old laptop and whilst the RAM appeared to be technically what was required e.g 256MB PC133 144-Pin etc, etc. After loading a project and playing it for a little while it would go crazy and play all samples loaded into memory all over the place and sqweal like a little b**ch. I replaced the memory with another module of the same spec and never had the same issue since.

Thanks i'll definately swap the RAM then. There is no shame in having Michael Keaton solve your problems.
