OMG my cf card went blank on me!

I was trying to save my work onto my CF card and all of a sudden my mpc froze so then I powered off/on and then tried uploading my older work but nothing is in my card!

What I did was I used one of those card reader and I see the card capacity being used half way but when I tried opening a folder in my mpc there's nothing.

How can I retrieve my work that I have saved from b4?

i don't really know how you can get the beats back. knows the time to get another card or an HD to back it up

For sure! ALWAYS back-up! I lost 2+ years of patches on my Virus after not backing up. Man was I pissed!

How do u backup to hd? Would it be in the same format as it is in the CF card?

Copy & Paste... Just make sure your Filenames are no more than 8 Characters or suffer the consequences....

format doesnt matter. if you got everything saved on the cf card and u got all ur samples n shit named with the 8 char max like usual, what you do is insert your cf card into a card reader attached to your PC.

I create a folder on my desktop called CF Backup.

Go into My Compuer on a Windows machine, find the CF card.

Open it up, press Ctrl + A (or drag and select all folders) to highlight everything, then drag and drop everything into the CF Backup folder on the desktop.

Doesnt matter if your sounds are snd format. Even if the PC cant read em, it will happily store your ish.

question:

what happens if your sample names are over 8 charas?
and does everything need to be 8 charas, samples/seq/pgm/tracknames?

is this a windows or mac specific problem? which is better to use to back it up?

does the same apply for backing up zip disks?

when the file names are long they get shortened. when transferring data between computer to the mp things can get messed up cuz file names will end up different.

in the mp when they get shortened it'll put characters into the file names. this has cause freezes for me in the past. as soon as i shorten them the freezes quit
