No, the MPC1000 is a current line.

Maybe that rumor could stem from the idea that they are going to develop the new models with the upgraded (i.e. not fukked) pads and a few "upgrades" as well.

You maybe right. The MPC 1K has served me well though. Its small but it packs a punch. IMO the best buy right now if you wanna get into an mpc and not go over thousand bucks.

The DATA WHEEL is quite weak as well and gave out on me before my pads did. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced problems with the DATA WHEEL, but it's so bad to the point where I've completely stopped using my 1K. I've been using Fruity Loops for a few weeks now just to keep me satisfied. However, the feel is totally gone.

If anyone else has experienced problems with their DATA WHEEL please let me know. I miss my 1K!!!

never had any issues with the data wheel. though it does seem fragile, its never given me any problems.

the discontinue myth is a true blue.. like anything that isnt supported for to long will have its plug pulled out to end its misery.. its a cheaper solvant than combatting an issue repeadatly.. i hope for the best for akai and that they get these problems solved quick before big brother has enough and sells this company out. the problems arent just with the mpc1000 i heard by sight that that all current mpc have problems and are not stable wheter in hardware or software..mpc4000 is proof of old and not fixed but forgotten.

the support for akai products are horrible..

ye, my data wheel is broken as fugg, workes every 3rd day or so, real weird.
think its the rotaryencoder thats busted.
mpcstuff.com told me they had them on backorder, that was 2-3 months ago.

rotary encoders are very easy to swap with a working part
if anyone wants to be a champ and desolder theirs, take it out and scan it/photograph it next to a ruler (metric) i'll find a working part from mouser and buy 100 of them, then send whoever took the picture a handful for free. enough rotary encoders for years!

this is a serious invitation
i hope to be able to find a more durable one, too.

It's definitely the rotary encoder. I took my 1K apart about a week ago and I took the DATA WHEEL off. I gave the rotary encoder a few rotations and I noticed that it would skip or slide past a few clicks which caused the characters on the screen of my 1K to change by themselves without me actually turning the DATA WHEEL.

Beat Conductor, i repeat: i'll ship you a handful of rotary encoders for free if you help me by taking photos of it at all angles after taking it out of your mpc...

don't send it anywhere to get it fixed - help me come up on this and find a better solution.

I don't know if I'm willing to open it up that deep. I don't wanna make it worse. All I did last time was take off the face plate. I'll see what I can do and I'll let you know.
