Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

i got a old fantom-s keyboard i got a pair midi cables i hook up to the 500 to record some bass to this sequence but its not recording the sound. is something missing. i dont have a mixer yet is that the problem.

MIDI does not transmit audio. Hooking up the two devices via MIDI will allow you to record sequence data that will trigger your keyboard but all audio comes out of the audio sockets.

If you are missing a mixer to hear both units simultanously....

connect your phantom keyboard to the input of your mpc 500 (PHANTOM LINE OUT to MPC500 LINE IN). Then choose [MODE] + RECORD. dont forget to alter the sound knob of the incoming source so you hear the phantom. Then you should be able to hear the sound of your phantom. Note that you are not going to be able to sequence record changes in the listening mode.

then you can just press play on your mpc and you hear the beat you done and then just play the bassline over the beat wile recording it.
