need some advice on new setup

Fellas,
I'm re-doing my setup and I need some advice,I plan on coppin these in the very near future:

1)mpc1000(will be here Friday...my first mpc of any kind..ever...do you believe it?)

2)tables and dj mixer...any suggestions(not really for scratching...I 'm not a dj,just to sample from vinyl)

3)monitors..Alesis Mk2 or Event tr5 I hear are good..I blew my shitty Samson Resolves

4)mixer..do I really need one though?

5)keyboard or maybe a module and controller

6)digital multitrack..lookin at Korg d1200 or Fostex VF160

I already have mics...sm57,sm58,Studio Project B1

I just need advice on what models to get,I got a Boss sp303 and 505,4 track digital multitrack,2 drum machines that I'm trading in so what do you guys have to say?.....

2 Direct drive tables don`t mess with the belt drive cheapies.

3 Either or are good. Some say get Tannoys. Mackies are good too.

4 If you want to eq, mix, pan, and insert effects your tracks separately and record each to a multitracker yes. If you have a digital multitracker you are already there.

5. Sample production or keyboard based its your choice

6 Korg has only 4 inputs but great effects and easy to learn, I don`t know about Fostex though.

Even if your'e not doing cuts I'd get a 1200 off of e-bay (you could probably find one for like , $200) . You might be able to find a new 1/2-way decent table for $50 cheaper but a tech is a tech , you only have to buy 'em once . Behringer has a mixer out for $99 that's supposed to contest w/ a Vestax 05pro (but then again . . . . it's Behringer) . I just re-did my lab & I was thinking about the same monitors as you but ended up getting M-Audio BX8's . But if your'e in between the Alesis's & the Event's , I'd get the Events (more body) . I never had a mixer until I got my 8-outs , so if your'e getting the MPC1000 (it comes standard w/ 4-outs , right ?) I'd get one , at least a 12 or 8 channel . I would also go w/ the module & controller (I just buy modules , sample all the sounds out , then return 'em) . And finally , I would definitely get the Korg over the Fostex but if you've got a fast enough computer I'd get Digital Performer & a 828mk2 . You don't have the hands-on control but the capabilities crush the hardware multi-tracks . I had an Akai DPS16 from the day it came out 'til this winter just because I was being stubborn about computers & software and I wanted "hands on" control . But now that I have DP I am starting to understand the conveniances of software audio recording (automation, better effects, waveform editing is f#cking awesome . . . . . as anyone who has a MPC knows) . All you get w/ the lower end multitracks are snapshots of mixes & really ugly effects . If your'e just starting out though I would recommend a hardware multi-track over software just because of the sheer simplicity . Hope this helps (shey-it . . . I wish I had known of a forum like this before I started dropping serious chips on gear . . . .) . Peace .

f-in rights W. Using software alongside hardware (mpc, dynamics..ect) is the way forward....can maybe be a little overwhelming for peeps new to the production game at first, but the way to go these days.

PGM if your in the market for both a computer input/output device and a mixer I would suggest checking out either the Tascam firewire mixer/interface or the Yamaha I think called the o1x. They give you basically a standalone (no PC needed) digital mixer with preamps, digital dynamics ,effecs all that ish as well as provide your computer with an asio driven Input Output. All through firewire. You should really check out those pieces as they would make a sick combo to any Mpc + computer(software) setup. Just a suggestion but if I were needing to purchase all that sh!t. I figure this is a good way to kill a couple birds with one stone while ending up with a sick DAW. Also you cant go wrong with the 828mk2 like W. said or anything from MOTU for that matter.

2)i recommend the stanton str8 80's or 100's, if ur not into djing or scratching, these will definitely suffice
3)both are nice
4)u dont really need one, but it improves ur sound by a million and a half
5)dont know bout that one
6) i use software

a word of advice DO NOT BUY TOO MUCH SH*T AT ONE TIME. buy on piece at a time and intergrade it into your setup. this will save you a lot of headaches.

Get yourself a fast computer, Reason, Logic and Pro-Toolz

I'd say try to master the mpc (since you're completely new to it) and take your time with coppin new gear....
there's no doubt you can make tha illest bangas with just an mpc!

good lookin out fellas,I've read (and actually printed ) all your advice.No doubt I will consider it all.I always had heads that had mpc's and shit but I never really messed with them personally ,but damn this thing is crazy.......you can mos def make an album on a budget with the mpc alone
if that's all you had!!I know I'm new to this forum but if ya'll don't hear from me in a couple of months don't sweat it I'm just locked up in the lab bangin out some heat on my new toy!LOL.....naw just playin'.......(or am I).

walker is right, but if u have the money to buy it all at one time, do it. but like walker said, only concentrate on mastering each peice of gear ONE AT A TIME, this will save a lot of confusion, and headaches, definitely mpc first
