So I am producing an album for someone...

Just the beats, I should say. And so I told the guy I would do it for 400$ cad just coz I would probably be making the beats anyways. So I go and buy a bunch of records to sample for these beats.. and I ended up spending probably 400$ on records so far lol.

So anyways, the album is almost done. I basically paid to make this album, especially with all the gear I was buying as well. I could not consider this breaking even.

BUT, I must say that good things are happening. This artist is spreading the word to other artists who are shopping, and therefore turning me more customers. SO, in the end it all pays off, hopefully. Not to mention I would be making the beats anyways.

So I guess the point is to just be a bit generous, don't get greedy, because good things start to come. I am not selling huge amounts of beats or for too much money, but I am able to expand my record collection just by making beats. So give it a shot, sell a beat, just dont be greedy!

I recomend buying Records at 2nd hand shops or salvation armys. The one near my house in the States has about 2,000 records for 50Cents a PC.

Our salvation armys/pawn shops dont have anything good in them.. every now and then I get something, but usually its paul ankas greatest hits or some bs like that. I don't mind spending a bit on a record at a shop as long as they keep bringin in the good stuff.

One thing that i learned greatly w/ buying records to sample for an album...is that they have to be the right ones that fit the mood


I'm currently working on 2 albums (my own, and another artist)..and the records i copped where due to the fact of listening to univ./college radio or surfing youtube..writing down names, finding/buying the vinyl and going from there.


Ex. I just recently found a group, Vanilla Fudge through surfing youtube joints of the Supremes...anyways, i heard their rendition of keep me hangin on..digged it...went to a place that sells prog. rock albums and just did up the beat. all of this coming at the last minute.

So really, if you spend 400 on pure records..make sure that you play your cards right..because you might 400 worth on records...but all of em may not work to your advantage...just a rant, don't mind me.

salv army's around the metro detroit area are flooding with some mint records. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheap. 50-75 cents each.

I give away free work for dchurches and some charity'.....it'd alwawy btought good will. I also will charge talented artists with discounts and free time,,,,again the rewards are more work and futer payments.....

sounds like a winner to me. everybody starts somewhere. cant wait to hear it.

u can usually find something to sample in any of the records that you get from thrift spots. anything from kids sing along, to the doobie brothers, to the scorpions. u can find gems in anything and it makes you a better beat maker

True...Thrift stores, flea markets, swap meets, even antique conventions (where I made my last haul) are great places to cop records..
