is this actually possible with zip drives?

i have a 2000xl with internal zip, and a usb zip drive on my pc. is is actually possible to put files on a disk using the usb drive, and load them on the internal zip on the akai? and back the other way? i thought it was but whenever i try and load samples onto the usb zip it says i need to format the disk....whei try and do this it says 'not possible to format disk'...so do i need a certain program to be able to do this?

is there a way to format zip disks so they are recognised by the usb zip drive and the mpc?

i don't know..... i use a parallel port drive with my pc and an internal in my mpc and i never formatted zips at all

format a fresh one on ur cpu first then try it in the mpc

yes. I format them on my mpc 2000, and my pc and macbook can read the disks. If that is not working, try formating the zips on the pc as fat16, and see if that works imo.

Does this also work with windows xp and should the MPC be upgrated with the latest O.S. in order for this to work?

Formatting the zip disk with your MPC2000XL is INCORRECT ! Copying .wav files on an MPC2000XL-formatted disk, using your computer, and then attempting to access the .wav files on your 2000XL will fail.

When you format a zip disk on the computer, the available filesystems are NTFS, FAT12, and FAT. You must format your zip disk with filesystem FAT.

The procedure is as follows:

1. Use a 100MB or 250MB zip disk that has NOT been formatted by your sampler.
2. With the zip disk in your zip drive connected to your computer, format the disk
- on the Format Windows Screen, select FAT in filesystem
3. Now go ahead and copy (drag and drop) your .wav files on the newly FAT-formatted zip disk.
4. Insert disk into MPC2000XL internal zip drive and ALL .wav files will appear and be available for loading.

That's it!

thanks for suggestions all...i figured out that i needed the drivers from iomega to make zip disk recgnisable in xp......it formats the disk but then when i try and drag a file to the formatted disk it says "disk in drive needs to be formatted' ?! i cant understand why and dunno what else i can do....anyone else had this problem?

Actually, you do not need the drivers from Iomega. If you are running Windows XP, the drivers are already there.

Not sure why you are getting said message, but if you follow -exactly- the procedure I laid out, you should format and copy the wav files to the zip disk easily. Also instead of dragging, try the copy function.
