preview doesnt match actual sound

ok... i've had a search and can't find anything regarding this, if i've somehow missed it i apologize profusely.

so i've recorded my breakbeat, sliced it into it's constituent parts using recycle (save your judgements) then transfered it via usb into my mpc1000.

i'm currently adding better drums to a beat that i did ages ago that has low quality tin-can sounding drums... long story short i'm in the load screen previewing my kicks and they sound like a thick, warm, round slice of sex... but as soon as i load it to a pad and try to play using it, it sounds like a damn stapler.

What's the deal yo?

i've got no effects turned on, no filtering just freshly loaded onto pad 1 tap it twice and it sounds like a knock at the door.

help me please... surely i'm doing something wrong but i can't for the life of me figure out what.

check your settings for decay, filters, effects, etc...

check ur master level set that to 0db.. go to mode+other and its a global setting..also make sure u dont have on any master effects turned on like the compressor or eq

I didn't mention it but no envelope either.

a friend of mine has suggested that it may be due to the preview being lower quality than the loaded sample... thoughts?

if this is the case can anyone suggest a way of attaining the same result?... bearing in mind that the mpc1000 requires 16bit/ 44100kbps... does anyone know the properties of the preview?

I've considered sampling the preview but this seems like a convoluted process


P.S. my master volume was set to -6 but this had no effect... it's not so much that the sound is quieter as it is less rounded and full... the loaded sample is alot sharper and punchier

Is your pad sensitivity turned down? Does it sound quieter or just different? Did you try it on any other pads? Is your pad double-triggereing it and causing the sound to phase out? Did you check the mixer volume for that pad? Is it panned? Just some ideas...
