I got the midisport 4X4 hooked to my mpc 2500, synced to cubase 4 - and it works.
If you are using cubase sx or sl, it's not your midisport's fault. Its a bug in the program, which however can be fixed! Can't remember how, but do a search in a cubase forum, and you'll find out how. Had the same problem using cubase sx2.
Well, if not you're a cubase user, i don't know what the problem is, but good luck solving it...

You need to find a file in your midi folder, and put it into another folder. Something called "enable midi" or something. I also remember at checkbox under devices that might help you out. But its been years now since I did that and I did a Mac crossover since!

Check out any cubase forum, I,m sure they'll help you.

Is it causing your machine or program to lock up? I have a buddy who went through a few stages of using a midisport 4x4 first, then moved up to the 8x8. And he was using cubase sx & sx3 but still could'nt shake the problem, even after upgrading his machine. Well after he noticed I was working with a MOTU interface for some time, he eventually got a new MOTU midi express xt just last Christmas. He has'nt complained not one time since then. Then my other buddy who had the same midiman 8x8 interface, saw the first buddy was'nt having anymore issues, goes out and purchases an xt also. Both are extremely happy now.

Is the motu a usb og pci card?

Had same problems with both USB midi key boards and USB midi interfaces!
And there are a bug in cubase regarding midi sent via USB

All MOTU midi interfaces are usb except for the legacy units. And there's no "bugs" in Cubase either. Known issues can arise with certain system configs and whatnot, but that is'nt bug related. What type of machine are you running? No problems with minimum specs eh? Does your system use usb 2.0?

This link is a step by step guide, that might solve your problem.

I found my informations about the bug on a danish cubaseforum, but i couldn't find an english thread about it. It basicly states that many users of cubase SE, SL and SX (1,2,3) have problems with midi timing if their midi inputs runs through USB.
