EB16 question

Hi, simple question for those who have one:

Can I use it solo on the basic outs or do I also need the 8 out expansion in order for it to work? I' m asking that cause I def need one and I only have a basic MPC setup. Thanks!

I don't have the 8 outs but I'm not sure if you can set effects on the main outs. I always set the effects on the samples assigned to pads.

What I meant was not assigning the effects on the main outs, but if I can use the board on individual sounds on the pads (like you say) without having the 8-out board.

So, you actually do this?

Yeah sure man no worries...

It's an extension to the mixer. You currently have the mixer screen right...Well than you can access the fx in a similar way. So if you're in that screen you can press a pad. That section will get highlighted and you can set what kind of fx, tweak the parameters and set the amount of send...

You don't need the 8 outs for this...

Reckone, I have an Akai MPC 2000 and I'm interested in using learning how to eq each individual sound. If you don't mind, could you go in greater detail step by step of what do next after the pressing of the pads and nighlighting?

Very easy..It's a card. So you just have to open up your mpc and gently put it into place. The slot where it fits is in the manual in the technical/maintenance section or whatever it's called.

Set up your effects in the FX EDIT screen. For eq you want one of the multi effects.

If you press open window after highlighting the pad assigned to the sound you want to eq you can choose which effect and the amount.

Play around with it, it's quite simple. I'm not behind my mpc right now so I can't explain in detail off the top of my head how exactly to do it step by step.

You ONLY get 4 busses, that's its.

ie, you wanna eq 5 sounds seperately, it aint happening with that card.

reverb 1 - > output
reverb 2 - > output
multi effect 1 - > output
multi effect 2 - > output

Eq, can only be found on a muli effect buss.

pg 137 2kxl manual, read it.

i wouldnt use it as an eq, but more of a filter with lfo's ( which is a glorified eq anyway ). Your better off running the 8 outs into an anallogue mixer, you'll get better eq'ing and summing there, and you can also set up your own bus's and fx send.
its alright as an in the box solution,

for the money of an eb-16 you can get a nice little effects unit wich might have more possibilities than the eb...
the 8-out board is really worth the money,a small 8 channel mixer makes working with the 2000 a lot more fun!

Indeed, I'd take an 8-out before an EB. You can do more out of the box with 8 outputs than you can do in the box with 2 outputs and FX.
That said they're both great upgrades and the EB does some cool stuff whilst reducing your desktop clutter.

I'd say the complete opposite.

8 outs only gives you 8 outs.

eb16 gives you ALOT of effects pages to play with.
